Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s Ambassador to the U.S., does not exclude the fact that the pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko can return home. The corresponding decision already considers the U.S. Department of justice.
On 6 may, the Ministry of justice of Russia has sent the statement to colleagues in the US, citing the Convention of the Council of Europe, reports “Lenta.Ru“.
In the Convention there is a reference to a clause, which gives the right to release a detainee on health and taking into account the total period of his release.
It is the fourth attempt to return Yaroshenko to Russia. The pilot was sentenced in the U.S. in 2011. He was accused of smuggling drugs. In Washington he was taken from Liberia.
Protection of Russian pilot relies on the inhumane treatment that resulted in the deterioration of health.
Today in US prisons is about 100 citizens of Russia. According to Antonov, their rights are often violated, and sometimes it comes to torture.
