In the center of Yekaterinburg on the site of one of the squares, it was decided to build a new temple. Some locals are not pleased by this situation – they went on an unsanctioned meeting. In the Kremlin assessed the actions of law enforcement agencies and protesters.
Dmitry Peskov, press Secretary of the President of Russia, admitted that such actions on the part of local residents contrary to the applicable law of Russia, reports “Vedomosti“.
In the Kremlin said that Moscow is not going to interfere in the actions of local authorities. The city Council maintains a constructive conversation with the protesters and with the builders. They are trying to find an alternative that would suit both sides.
In September 2018 the architectural and town-planning Council of Yekaterinburg made the decision about construction in the Park near the drama Theatre, the Cathedral of St. Catherine. Until 1930 this place has stood the Cathedral, which was destroyed by the Bolsheviks.
May 13, workers have fenced the construction site and on the same day, a spontaneous rally of local residents took it down. The police all this time did not intervene in the conflict. May 14, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, Governor of Sverdlovsk region, decided to hold talks between the protesters and construction workers.
Sponsors of the temple was made by Andrey Kozitsyn (owner of the Ural mining and metallurgical company) and Igor Altushkin (the owner of Russian copper company).
