Ended the ice hockey world Championships: Finland — champion, Russia — bronze

Sunday, may 26, in Bratislava ended the world championship on hockey. The title took home the team of Finland, who defeated in the final of the championship of the Canadians. The meeting ended with the score 3:1. In third place was the team of Russia.

In the final, the Canadians made it once in the semi-final with the score 5:1 defeated the team of the Czech Republic. Finnish hockey players on the way to the title of world Champions defeated in the semifinals the Russian team 1:0. We will remind, Canadians and Finns have already met in the group stage of the Slovak Cup. And then the fight ended with the score 3:1 in favor of new Champions.

Experts called the national team of Finland the weakest for many years — it includes 18 debutants of the world Championships. But the newcomer was not really the coach of the Finnish team Yukiko Aleena. It was under his leadership the Finns won a victory at the 2011 world Championships, competing in the final with rivals from Sweden. The title was the second in the history of Finnish hockey.

After the victory in the semifinals over Russia Jalonen so described his team: “These guys want to fight for the country. And play for each other. That’s why we reached the final.” Of course, he could not know that in a day the second time in his career, will be the coach of the world Champions. Could not know, but certainly hoped for.

Opened the score of the final meeting Canadians: Shea Theodore spectacularly beat two defenders and threw the puck to Kevin Lankinen. In the 23rd minute, the captain of the Finnish team of Marko Anttila a throw in near corner leveled the score, and later led the team forward. Four minutes before the end of the meeting, Harri Pesonen made the score more comfortable for the Finns — 3:1.

Earlier in the day, may 26, decided the fate of the bronze medals. Team Russia beat the Czech Republic in the shootout. According to Russian hockey players, goalie Andrei Vasilevsky “gave them a victory,” allowing competitors to “print” the gate.

On 13 minutes Mikhail Sergachev spent far impingement, and Mikhail Grigorenko sent a washer in gate of Czechs. But the next minute the score was again equal to the Czech hockey players have used the change link from the Russians. Andrei Vasilevsky recognized as the best player and best goalkeeper of the championship according to tournament organizers. Best forward was another Russian Nikita Kucherov. Philip Hronika of the Czech Republic acknowledged the best defender.

We will remind, in 2011 for bronze medal, team Russia also fought with the Czech hockey players, however, of compositions of that championship in the current migrated only four athletes: the Russians Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexander Ovechkin, the Czechs — Michael Frolic and Jakub Voracek.
