Between France and Ukraine have always had close relations in different spheres of activity: culture, art, economy. France was one of the first to recognize the independence of Ukraine. Today, Paris remains one of the main partners of Kiev and, above all, in the peace talks on the situation in the Donbass – the so-called “Normandy format” or “Channel four”
Since the “revolution of dignity” Ukraine’s President four times visited France. During one of them, Petro Poroshenko was on the March in memory of the executed journalists of the publication “Charlie Hebdo”, where there was in the first row next to the “friends” of Ukraine with Angela Merkel and then-French President Francois Hollande. Is it a coincidence? I think not. Poroshenko could not go, because in those days the shooting of the cartoonists of “Charlie” has the scale of the universal misery and lack Poroshenko, the President of the country aspiring to Europe, simply wouldn’t understand, especially when you consider that France and Germany were among the States that supported the overthrow of the Yanukovych government in Ukraine in 2014, marking its starting point on the road to democracy, or rather to the descent to the bottom of what turned out to be very profitable.
Ironically, Poroshenko honored memory of journalists killed in France, and at the same time, tons of shells rained down hundreds and thousands of heads of the residents of Donbass, although neither Merkel nor Hollande did not pay any attention to it.
In 2019, on the eve of the presidential elections, Petro Poroshenko, visited French counterpart, this time to Emmanuel Macron. Noteworthy is the fact that the macron took Poroshenko, is still the current President of Ukraine, three hours later after a meeting with… the latest competitor in the presidential race Vladimir Zelensky. What is it? Disregard for, the evidence of the defeat of the Poroshenko or kowtowing to the new owner of Ukraine, who called himself “servant of the people” and even came up with the party? The last argument is hardly traceable. One way or another, but one of the first who spoke the sixth President of modern Ukraine, was it Emmanuel macron, he was one of the first to congratulate Zelensky with a victory.
Not giving the new President how to grow roots in the office of the head of state, France again underlines its loyalty to Ukraine. May 31, during a briefing Jean-Yves Le Drian has expressed support to initiatives of Ukraine on the way to the end of the armed conflict and restoration of peace in Donbas.
“France once again assured its readiness to support the implementation of any initiatives that will come from the Ukrainian leadership to achieve this goal,” said the chief of French diplomacy to journalists after a meeting with Zelensky, adding that he soon plans to visit Paris. But as they say, wait and see, but for now, let us look at the past that, in addition to ordinary work contained a number of scandalous facts that are often suppressed not only Ukrainian, but also French press, striving for maximum transparency and objectivity.
After the events on the Maidan, coup Kiev leaders, the branch of the Ukrainian part of the Donbass and Crimea, and return the last part of the Russian Federation, the French took the position of support of the Kiev authorities. For it in August 2017, françois Hollande, had just surrendered the keys to the Elysee Palace, Mr Marcon, was awarded the order of Freedom.*
From time to time, the position of support of the Paris of the Ukrainian authorities was unchanged. However, after some time in France, people began to appear and the organization asking the questions. They tried to figure out what happened, say, in Odessa on may 2 or may 9 in Mariupol in 2014, what specific obstacles are to bring peace to Ukraine.
Interestingly, in Kiev it was a quick decision in the days of the presidency Poroshenko. Then, the government actually began to blacklist anyone who tries to criticize the Kiev authorities. Such people were forbidden entry to Ukraine, and the interesting thing is that Kiev does not disdain to add to this list and European public and political figures, and journalists, who came on may 2 in Odessa for a memorable event.
However, the French authorities, and indeed leadership of other EU countries did not respond to this unfriendly step is clearly contrary to European values. Moreover, the French-Ukrainian cooperation. For example, on 5 February 2018
Paris took the head of the Ukrainian diplomacy Pavlo Klimkin and 4 December of the same year during the meeting of NATO Ministers held a bilateral meeting of foreign Ministers of the two countries.
But that being said, the visible side of the coin. The visits of heads of state and government meeting, the Ministers highlighted constantly and willingly. And what about the reverse? And there, that either escapes from the press, or that her writing is not recommended. In this case we are talking about almost a secret visit to France the President of the Parliament of Ukraine Andrew Parubiy, which honors they received a year ago, the chairmen of both chambers of the French legislature. Agree, not always take the state as the representative of another country of the speaker. Despite the secrecy of the visit, it became known about it is quite a large number of people opposed to the policy of the Kiev authorities.
Another example. Not long ago France has been patriot of Ukraine, one of the initiators of the tragedy on 2 may 2014 in Odessa and in the past the Deputy of the Pro-presidential faction Oleksiy Goncharenko. In Paris he was greeted with joy, had a photo session. The Internet flashed his joint photograph with French lawmakers. Particularly distinguished Herve Seas — Senator, at the time, he personally out of the hands of the President of Ukraine received the medal for “propaganda of Kiev at the European level”.
All these developments are more and more protest French taxpayers who are asking the question about whether or not financed by France, the war in the Donbass and openly anti-Russian propaganda.
In conclusion I want to draw attention to one detail. Despite close relations between the French President and his Ukrainian counterpart, the latter was not invited to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the allied landing in Normandy. Not invited and other leaders. But the President of Ukraine could invite at least because Ukraine carried on their shoulders a considerable part of that went to the Soviet Union during the Second world war. Although it was a different Ukraine. However, France was different.
* — the order of Freedom was established on 10 April 2008. At the beginning of 2019 his Cavaliers were 67 people, including 21 foreigners. Rewarding Hollande could be regarded as an estimate of his contribution to the “democratization of Ukraine”.
