Slutsky found no connection between his loss in PACE and accusations of harassment

Wednesday, June 26, Russian Deputy Leonid Slutsky was not elected PACE Vice speaker. In 2018 the journalist “Rain”, RTVI and Russian service Bi-bi-si has accused him of sexual harassment. In an interview with RFI Slutsky said that he sees no connection between the scandal and harassment result in the elections in PACE.

“No (not related). Especially since they all they (the charges) collapsed. It was a provocation that was intended to somehow provoke a Russian politician. If we could not stand this accusation, the grid accusations of harassment would be draped over the Russia as the United States, (…) where according to the old false charges of 20-30 years ago, you can be in court. It is too much, Russia is not ready”, — said Slutsky.

“Those who opposed my candidacy, they talked about the sanctions on the Crimea, but none of them thought about the harassment. Although if it did, it would be scary. Each of us probably has his faults, but in this case, the provocation that has long passed and can hardly be an argument. If only in the mouth of the Russian liberal press,” — said the Deputy.

Leonid Slutsky called the accusations a “project” and himself his “first sign”. The list of persons who stand behind the “provocation”, the Deputy refused to declare. “The fact is that to deal with Russia, it is convenient to use harassment and many other deceptive tactics,” — said the MP. However, he did not rule out his re-participation in the elections of the Vice-speaker of PACE, and the result of the election in a PACE called “impressive.”

According to the regulations of the parliamentary Assembly, Russia may appoint a member of his delegation, Vice-speaker without a vote, if the decision is no one will protest. Elections had requested the delegation of Ukraine. In the first round Slutsky scored 101 votes necessary 159. In the second round, his candidacy was supported by 105 deputies.

Recall that in March 2018, the producer of “Rain” Darya Zhuk, Deputy editor-in-chief of RTVi Ekaterina Kotrikadze and correspondent of Russian service bi-Bi-si Farid Rustamov accused Leonid Slutsky of sexual harassment. After that, several media outlets announced the Deputy of the boycott. As told RTVi Deputy Oksana Pushkina, the defeat of the Slutsk election of the Vice-speaker of the PACE was due to accusations of harassment.
In 2014, the Deputy Slutsky is under EU sanctions.
