Renault Megane RS Trophy-R was a new record Nurburgring among front-wheel-drive cars. The hatchback managed to drive the track with a length of 20.6 km in 7 minutes and 40.1 seconds, being faster than the previous record-holder (Honda Civic Type R) in 3.7 seconds.
It is reported that the modification of the record based on mass-produced Renault Megane RS Trophy, the latter was thoroughly revised. In particular, specialists of the French brand have tried to improve aerodynamics. Version with the letter “R” received additional flaps at the bottom, slit the NACA intake on the hood and carbon fiber rear diffuser.
Plus the experts of Renault Sport have done a tremendous job in facilitating the construction of the car, resulting in the reduced weight of 130 kg. For this I had to abandon the steering mechanism of the rear wheels and the rear couch, and instead of the last installed additional transverse stretching. Only it is allowed to throw 63 kilos.
The machine also prescribed lithium-ion battery instead of lead acid (4,5 kg), and in the cabin — more lightweight composite seat Sabelt (14 kg). In addition, the weight reduction contributed to the replacement of the original exhaust system titanium Akrapovic from the company (- 6 kg), and installing a fiberglass hood and a thinner rear glass.
The French allowed “under the knife” fog lights and rear wiper while deciding to put the “charged” hatch on 19-inch wheels Fuji Light (2 kg each) with tires Bridgestone Potenza S007. However, for a fee the past can not be replaced by carbon, which will allow to lose another 8 kg in a circle.
Reducing the mass of the model to 1 306 kg, the company’s engineers embarked on refining the chassis. They installed on car adjustable Ohlins dampers and more powerful brakes Brembo firms with bimetallic discs (although it can be ordered with carbon-ceramic). The forward wheels of piatigorski was increased (to 2.05 degrees), and a limited-slip Torsen differential has been retained.
Under the bonnet of the new Renault Megane RS Trophy-R remains the standard 1.8-liter turbo engine, 300 HP (400 Nm), although double clutch robot it was decided to abandon in favor of a lighter manual transmission. However, the dynamic characteristics of the R-version is still better: time to disperse hundreds was reduced to 5.4 seconds (was 0.3), and the maximum speed increased to 262 km/h (+ 1).
The appearance of this modification in the European market is scheduled for the end of the nineteenth year. Modification will release an edition of 500 copies at the price of 55 000 Euro for each. Carbon brakes will only get 30 of them with them the car will be more expensive. Note that the R-version of the model is not track, and therefore it is possible to ride one on public roads.
