Scientists from the Medical College of Baylor in the study found that cancer can cause mutations in gene TP53. About this time, according to MedicalXpress.

According to the publication, the findings of scientists are based on a study of over 10 thousand tissue specimens and compared their DNA with 80 thousand different mutations. Resulting in data that in all cases, people with low survivability were often mutations in the gene TP53, which stops the growth and division of cells in case of its damage.

The defect, according to the study, was observed including in both copies of the gene TP53, and loss of the second normal copy of the was, most often, because of copying the first defective copy.

“Since TP53 is one of the most important factors in the prevention of cancer, the better we understand that gene, the better we will be able to understand the basic biology of cancer. This will lead to better methods of treatment,” quoted the publication the words of one of the scientists.
