Five-year fight for an increase in overtime pay for millions of workers in the United States is over.
The Ministry of labor has just issued a decree that companies must pay overtime wages is a much larger group of employees if they work more than 40 hours a week. This is a victory for approximately 1.3 million workers, who will now be compensated for what they spent long hours on the extra work.
But it is a bitter defeat for the 2.8 million others who could receive payment for overtime in accordance with the original rule adopted by the Obama administration.
Up to the present time can earn overtime only to those employees who received less than 23 thousand dollars a year. This means that they will pay 50% more if they work more than 40 hours a week. The new rule raises the threshold wages to 35 568 USD.
