“Ocean Viking had received instructions from Rome’s coordination Centre for rescue operations at sea. The vessel to sail to Lampedusa, the island that identified as a safe place for the landing of the 82 survivors,” — said in a statement.

In the new government of Italy, which began work on Tuesday, after the resolving of the political crisis, confirmed the information of NGOs.

“It took us a little longer, but the Ocean Viking was finally assigned a safe port,” said Matteo of Orfini, Italian politician of the Democratic party, a member of the ruling coalition.

Earlier, the Italian government, which included representatives of extreme right-wing party “Northern League”, has taken a tough stance and did not allow rescue ships to enter the ports. For this, the authorities were criticised by the NGOs: representatives of the organizations stated that Italy puts lives saved from shipwrecks danger. In August, several migrant ship-Open Arms, who were not allowed to dock in Lampedusa, jumped overboard and tried to swim to the beach.

82 migrant vessel Ocean Viking will be able to apply for asylum in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Luxembourg. About it on Twitter said the head of Ministry of internal Affairs of France Christophe Castaner. According to him, the country came to a special agreement, which will allow the ship to moor to the shores of Lampedusa. As he said, now members of the EU should create “a real temporary mechanism” that would allow you to distribute migrants between European countries.
