NASA astronauts within the next three months will carry a total of 10 astronauts in space from the International space station (ISS). This was announced by the organization on its website on Friday, October 4.
The head of the program of flight MKS kirk schirman noted that during the first five outputs of the astronauts will install a new lithium-ion batteries instead of hydrogen and Nickel.
“Another five exits in the space allotted to repair is installed on the surface of the space station the alpha magnetic spectrometer”, — he said.
Schirman added that the operation becomes unique because the procedure and the instruments for its implementation were developed specifically for this repair.
In addition, on 6 October on Board the ISS for the first time will work purely female crew — Christina Koch and Andrew Morgan.
On 2 October it became known that NASA carries on negotiations with “Rosatom” about the purchase of additional seats on the Soyuz spacecraft to deliver its astronauts to the ISS after the spring of 2020. Currently, the American part has purchased two seats for the astronauts on Soyuz, the launch of which is scheduled for fall 2019 and spring 2020.
