Russian hackers attacked anti-doping organizations around the world

Microsoft has detected a hacker attack on anti-doping organizations around the world. It is assumed that they are connected with the Russian authorities. The announcement was published on the website of the Corporation.

The center collecting information about the threats to Microsoft have traced major cyber attacks on anti-doping and sport organizations, which were committed by a band called Strontium. It is also known as Fancy Bear, and APT28.

“At least 16 national and international sporting and anti-doping organizations on three continents were victims of the attacks, which began on 16 September, shortly before the appearance of reports of new possible actions by the world anti-doping Agency”, — stated in the message.

According to Microsoft some of these attacks were successful. Hackers used phishing, sputtering passwords and malware. The company has notified the organization that became the target of attacks.
