Washington is planning in the near future to impose new sanctions against Russia. The main reason is Russian foreign policy and the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”. Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, opposed this decision from Washington.
The United States intends to impose sanctions not only against Russia, but also European companies that take an active part in the construction of a new pipeline. The restrictions that can be imposed on them from Washington, will have extraterritorial effect, said Merkel, informs resource Liganews.net.
In early December, the German foreign Ministry appealed directly to Washington not to impose sanctions against European companies involved in the construction of “Nord stream-2”. In Berlin stressed that the new sanctions will have a negative impact not so much on Moscow as on Europe itself.
Yesterday, December 17, the U.S. Senate approved a new budget for 2020, which provides for the package of sanctions against the gas pipeline “Turkish stream” and “Nord stream-2”. The act provides for the promotion of NATO members, which in the future will completely abandon oil and gas from Russia. However, the bill still must be signed by the President of the United States Donald trump. And he, in turn, intends to go to build new relations with Russia and against the policy of “carrot”.
