In the centre of Velikiy Novgorod archeologists found medieval lead seal — presumably the Grand Prince Vassily II (the Dark).
About it reports “Interfax” with reference to the employee of Institute of archeology of Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) Oleg Oleinikov, who heads the work. According to him, found printed survive, however, archaeologists with great probability, suppose that it belonged to Vasily the Dark. Like seals in the middle ages was sealed documents.
However, the uniqueness of the findings is not that. The seal of Basil II, the archaeologists had to find. A distinctive feature of the Novgorod finds that one of its sides is a reprint of the second, presumably its owner — Prince Ivan, the brother of Basil the Dark. If this version is confirmed, the print will be one of a kind.
The excavation, which was made this discovery, carried out on the Sophia side of Novgorod the Great, near the hotel “Intourist”, on the banks of the Volkhov river. They are initiated in connection with the construction of the embankment in this place.
