The doctors explained why you can’t run around in masks

As reported by the SUN, in China, a runner was hospitalized after a 2.5 mile run in the mask. He underwent emergency operation in connection with the development of potentially life-threatening condition.

Doctors urge people not to wear face masks while running as a covering for the mouth and nose can make breathing.

Central hospital of Wuhan announced that the 26-year-old man was forced to abort a run last Thursday after he started having breathing problems and chest pains. Relatives rushed him to the hospital. During the examination the doctors discovered that the left lung of the person shrunk at 90% and his heart has shifted closer to the right side of the body. After surgery, the patient is in stable condition.

Collapse (compression) of lung known as a pneumothorax, occurs when air enters the space between the outer part of the lung and the inside of the chest wall. If the air continues to penetrate into space, may begin to squeezed other lung and heart.

In the health service believe that the collapsed lung in men was caused by the fact that he wore a mask while running.

Chen Bazzoni, Director of Department of thoracic surgery at the institution in Wuhan, said that this person was already prone to spontaneous pneumothorax also because of its Constitution because he is tall and thin.

The father of one of the boys said that he believes that the mask his son had to wear in school, played a role in his death.

“I suspect that this is because he was wearing a mask, – he said. – It was awkward to wear it while running”.

But Cao Lansu, Professor of University of Chinese medicine Shaanxi, said that it is unlikely that the mask caused the boy to choke.

“I don’t think that wearing masks was the cause of this sudden death”, said Cao, although he added that without an autopsy it is impossible to verify.

Although it is unknown did the mask have any role in the death of schoolchildren in several schools in Tianjin and Shanghai, have cancelled the examinations in physical education.
