The foreign Ministry of Ukraine urged not to lift sanctions against Russia this summer. Kiev urged the EU leaders not to pay attention to the pandemic coronavirus and continue political and economic pressure on Russia.
Dmytro Kuleba, a Ukrainian foreign Minister, in an interview with the resource “RBC” calls upon the leaders of the EU not to lift sanctions against Russia this summer, informs resource LigaNews.
According to Kiev, Moscow specially came from afar, saying that the pandemic has crippled the country and you need to remove sanctions only in “humanitarian purposes.” Kuleba said that Kiev had managed to “redeem” the whole story.
“They have something will try to do, but a definite stance that the pandemic is not a reason for lifting the sanctions, imposed in response to violation of international law”, – concluded the head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry.
Kuleba not rule out that Russia once again talks about lifting sanctions this fall. Kiev said that in 2014 for every 6 months to extend sanctions Moscow turns to Europe with a request to remove them. “This is also a very protracted struggle, in which everybody was involved,” said the foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
Not long ago, Russia initiated the project “Declaration of solidarity of the United Nations facing the challenges created by the coronavirus (COVID-19)” which in the context of pandemic allows to lift the sanctions. However, Kiev has blocked Russia’s resolution during a meeting of the UN General Assembly.
