Former counsel to trump, Michael Cohen released from prison

A former personal lawyer of President Donald trump , Michael Cohen will be released from Federal prison due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and will spend the remainder of his term under house arrest, reports The Wall Street Journal.

As told the Associated Press a person familiar with the matter, Cohen will be released from prison Otisville in upstate new York, where he is serving a sentence for lying to the Congress and violation of campaign Finance.

Cohen is in prison since may last year and had to remain in custody until November 2021. In March, he appealed to the judge of the Federal court of Manhattan with the exemption request, but the judge refused him.

“What Michael Cohen is committed to be released from prison under house arrest, it seems, is another attempt to bring herself back into the news agenda to make speak about it” – wrote judge William Pauley in a ruling rejecting the request of Cohen.

The current decision on early release was made in the Federal Bureau of prisons.

The Bureau had previously said that Cohen and the other prisoners in Otisville will be released, but a few days later the decision was canceled.
