The University of Oxford in search of more than 10,000 volunteers willing to undergo trials of an experimental vaccine protivokariosnoe.
Scientists in the historic University started the vaccination of 1,000 healthy volunteers in April as part of the initial phase of clinical trials. On Friday, 22 may, Oxford announced that researchers are ready to move on to more advanced studies that require 10 260 adults and children from all over the UK.
The trial vaccine, called AZD1222 were initially tested on six monkeys in the United States before April 23 was vaccinated with the first two people in Oxford.
“Clinical studies are progressing very well, — said in the press release Professor Andrew Pollard, head of the Oxford Vaccine Group. — We are now beginning research to evaluate how the vaccine triggers immune response in the elderly, and to check whether it can provide protection to a wider population“.
According to the report of Pollard, scientists hope to begin their second test immunization of thousands of new people, including the elderly, in may and June. The participants will take regular blood samples and keep a diary of symptoms and changes in health status.
