Hello, dear readers and DIY!
Many of You have prepared tables or desks, table tops are a little worn out, and You want to update their appearance.
In this article, Catherine, the author of the YouTube channel “KATER.”, will tell You how you can create a faux marble on the surface of the countertop yourself.
This method is very simple and easily performed even in home conditions.
Two — component injection molding epoxy resin
— Kolorizatory (white and black), alcohol
— Polyethylene film, cotton wool, rubber gloves, plastic cups, wooden sticks.
The tools used by the author.
— High precision electronic weighing scale
— Technical fan.
The process of making.
To demonstrate this technique, Catherine bought a very cheap table, enameled metal top which has the small bumpers. This will simplify the task of creating a cover.
Of course, the cheapest way would be a simple covering of the surface of the vinyl film, but the proposed method involves the creation of a robust coating of cast epoxy resin.
The first thing you need to weigh the two components of the resin in the correct ratio using accurate electronic scalesor measuring cups, which sometimes comes with the resin.
Thoroughly mix the composition in a glass, it is desirable to pour it into the second, and repeat the procedure of mixing. It is necessary for the reason that components do not mix near the walls and bottom of the glass.
From the main volume Katya pours in two small containers little resin, and adds them in black and white colorization. So she gets two squads of dark and light grey shades.
The first team to fill the whole table top, painted in white color. The very top is already painted the factory white enamel, so a large amount of resin is not required to overlap the background colors.
Surface countertops mandatory to clean from dust, and degreased with alcohol.
Then she poured the main part, it can be leveled with the plate, because the resin is very fluid. It is important not to leave the resin on the sides, or immediately to clean up drops and splashes with them.
A uniform layer near the edges can get slightly tilting and rotating the table top.
After the alignment layer, it is necessary to slightly warm it technical a Hairdryer, this will help to remove the bubbles formed. In very high temperature there is no need, it is quite suitable and household Hairdryer.
And now begins the most interesting and creative work to create the marble veins.
A suitable tool for drawing thin lines will be a normal stick for ice cream, or plastic disposable knife.
Macnow the stick part, you must wait until the resin will drain from it a thin stream.
So, Catherine makes several lines brought gray composition.
Now, tilting the Hairdryer at different angles, playing with distance and air flow, these lines “swell” in different directions. They gradually become blurred outlines.
When you are finished with the first streaks, she does the line in dark gray.
All operations with the Hairdryer again. It is important not to get involved in this process, because when heated, the resin it begins to rapidly polymerize and need to leave the composition in the still flowable state, so that the layer has time to level off.
Natural marble often has pink streaks, it would be possible to add them, but the author ended the work at this stage, and leaves the countertop on a level surface (this is very important, it’s even better to check the building level) for a day.
The next day, she gathered a table and can be used for other purposes. Similar design tables with marble tops are much more expensive original table.
Thank you Catherine for an interesting master class on creating surfaces “marble” epoxy resin!
The creation of such surfaces on the worktops without sides, they should be created independently, given the very high turnover in the composition of the molding resin (it leaks even through a very thin slit).
All good mood, sound health, and interesting ideas!
