Chinese scientists have discovered a new strain of influenza that could lead to the next pandemic. He appeared recently and have so far been discovered only in pigs — but in the future could mutate, starting to spread from person to person.
The researchers noted that the virus is not yet a pressing issue, but has “all prerequisites” for further mutations and therefore needs careful monitoring by health authorities.
According to experts, a new strain called G4 EA similar to the H1N1 strain of swine flu raging in 2009. It can grow and reproduce in cells in the respiratory tract.
While current flu vaccines cannot protect the human body from G4 EA H1N1, however, according to scientists, it can be adapted to combat the virus if necessary.
