In this review, the author will share an unconventional idea — how to make a bench vise with two movable jaws.
Can be installed on the spindle, knob, and can be used to drive an electric drill (as you wish).
If you work in a workshop you need a powerful grip that can be used even in the quality press, for the manufacture of such structures will require a hydraulic Jack.
The first thing the author takes two bolts, and cutting off their hats. Then it will be necessary to weld the bolts together. The weld is processed by the grinder. We have bilateral screw for the grip.
To nuts that will eventually “sit” on the screw, it is necessary to weld two small bolts (see photo below).
In the next stage at the end of the screw drill the hole for the knob. To the other side weld a piece of square rod. Cut it to the desired length.
As the vise base, the author uses a piece of steel channel. Do the layout and then cut out grooves on the sides and at the top of the base.
On the spindle, yews screw-on nuts with bolts. Set the screw to its place, fix the bolts with nuts.
To large nuts, the author welds the segments of the square rod, and the halves of a thick-walled round tube. Make pressure plates and weld them to the jaws.
In the end there will be only welded on the sides of the base two pieces of angle with holes for fixing the Vice to the table.
The detailed process of making of this handmade you can see in the video below. The idea belongs to the author Fawa Bros.
