Standard store hoes are made of carbon steel, so they rust quickly and need frequent sharpening, which is complicated by the fairly thick blade. To make “eternal” and an excellent hoe, and thus to save money, you can own of unfit for further sharpening of circular saw blade. This work to anyone trained in simple plumbing skills and techniques.
If possible, it is best to choose the disk thinner. It is easier to handle, but, more importantly, the chopper will get light and work it to be effective and not so tiring, especially when the area is great. Also to facilitate and accelerate the process of sharpening and straightening of this garden tool. In addition to the old disk, we need to prepare the cut steel pipe of appropriate diameter.
Of the tools and devices we need:
- a measuring tool and a marker;
- an angle grinder or metal saw;
- anvil and hammer;
- the source of metal heating;
- arc welder;
- mechanical or manual sharpener.
The process of making chopper
First, the mechanical abrasive circle or using the grinder cut all the teeth. Then mark the disk in the radial direction into three equal parts. This will give us the opportunity to make three of the same tool for hilling plants, such as potatoes or weeding.
Cut the workpiece along the planned lines with the help of grinders and saws on metal. In principle this can be done with a hand saw, but given the strength of the alloy steel from which is made the drive will take a lot of time, effort and the presence of several high-quality paintings.
So that when hilling the soil is not left hand, starting from the center of the cutting edge and to edges, make a symmetrical bends, using a hammer and anvil. Sickle shaped in addition to performance and comfort, provides greater reliability of the tool because of the appearance of ribs.
Element chopper (let’s call it a bracket) that is welded to the blade, and the other end of it is inserted into the handle, made of pipe sections of appropriate length. This heated one side and bent replusive angle slightly more direct.
The bent part of the bracket on the outside and the top is welded to the blade of the chopper at the center. It remains only to sharpen the cutting edge from the outside, insert the handle bracket, securely fasten it, and our homemade tool is ready to work.
Experts say that the hoe of the disc saws will last at least 40 years.
