China has revoked the license of the U.S. Consulate General

China has revoked the license of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu, in Sichuan province. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of China.

Closure of the Consulate in Chengdu was a response to the U.S. decision within 72 hours to close Chinese Consulate in Houston (Texas), which was announced on July 21.

The Chinese foreign Ministry said that the closure of Consulate in Chengdu “legitimate and necessary” response to the US action, which corresponds to the norms of international law and diplomatic practice.

Chinese authorities blamed the escalation of the conflict between the two countries in the United States. “We again call on the United States… to cancel the erroneous decision [about the closure of the Consulate in Houston] for the normalization of bilateral relations”, — said in a statement the foreign Ministry of China.

We will remind that US authorities explain the closure of the Consulate of China in Houston protecting “American intellectual property and personal data of Americans”.

China called the incident “a unilateral political provocation”. The President of the United States Donald trump admitted the closure of the Chinese diplomatic missions in other U.S. cities
