Has a planet the size of Saturn. This is the first discovery of planets using the astrometric method in the radio waves.
It revolves around ultrahydrogel dwarf and is located 35 light years from Earth. This gas giant has a circulation period of 221 day and located at a close distance from the star (from 0.3 astronomical units, or 0.3 of the distance between the Earth and the Sun). Red dwarf of type M9, according to the calculations of astronomers, has a mass of only 0.06-0.08 times the mass of the Sun. The star received the name of TVLM 513, and the planet — TVLM 513b. The study used data from the VLBA (Antenna array with very long bases), a network of ten radio telescopes which belongs to the National radio astronomy Observatory (USA).
The planet was identified using the astrometric method, resulting in identification of the movement of the stars in space and discovery of tiny fluctuations in movement caused by the gravitational effect of the planet
In this case, this effect can be seen more clearly, because a large planet rotating around a small star and its gravitational influence is more noticeable. Noticing the vibrations, the researchers were surprised to find a planet similar TVLM 513b, because they expected that its mass, at least, will be the same as that of Jupiter, and the orbit will be bigger. The researchers also emphasize that the identification of such a huge planet on a relatively small orbit was a difficult task.
In fact, this effect exists for all stars with planets around, but for many of them it is minimal and not noticeable from long distances. Even in the solar system, the planets, and especially Jupiter, have the same effect on the Sun, but the effect is very small.
