It is forbidden to create and use as cold steel, according to Article 223.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, imprisonment for up to two years! Forging a Damascus knife from roofing screws Greetings to all lovers of tinkering, I propose to consider the instructions for making a knife from roofing screws. The blade is made by forging and has a pattern typical for Damascus steel. Of course, the correct Damascus steel is usually made from different grades of steel, but still everything turned out interesting. To harden the steel, the author made carburizing, the blade became so hard that it leaves scratches on the bottle. If you are interested in homemade , I suggest you study it in more detail!
Materials and tools used by the author:
List of materials:
– roofing screws;
– wood, brass (for the handle).
List of tools:
– a piece of a square pipe;
– a clerical proofreader;
– a drill;
– a forge and a blacksmith's tool;
– a belt sander;
– oil for hardening;
– oil for wood;
– coal, soda, a piece of pipe (for carburizing);
– drill;
– drill.
The process of making homemade products:
Step one. Blank forging
We take a piece of a square pipe, coat the walls with a stationery proofreader and load the roofing screws into the resulting box. Next, we weld the box and drill a hole, through it we fill the container with brown, thanks to which the screws will weld together with each other.
Welding the hole and sending the cube to the furnace.

We hammer self-tapping screws into a plate, and then the author cut the plate into three parts, welded and forged again using borax. Pull the steel into a plate and chop it in two, this will be the material for two blades. A little more effort and now the blade profile is ready.

Finalizing the blade and trying to harden it
The blade needs to be ground well and the blade formed. Then the author tried to temper the steel, heat the blade and immerse it in oil. The author tried the blade with a file, the steel is soft, the tempering failed, the problem needs to be solved.

Cementation is the oldest way to harden steel. We need charcoal and soda, with which we will enrich the steel with carbon. We place the blade in the pipe, fill in the components and, having welded the pipe hermetically, send the whole thing to the forge.

Now you can remove the blade, the author also placed a probe in the form of a steel rod into the pipe. We cut the rod, etch and now you can see how deeply the cementation has occurred, the author's figure turned out to be 3 mm, enough for the blade!
Now the blade can be hardened, the blade is now hard, the knife even cuts the bottle! It remains to finally grind the blade on the machine and you can make the handle.

Assembling the handle, the author has it made of wood, in the front part there are inserts of brass and other material.
We cut the blanks, glue everything classically with epoxy glue. After the glue has cured, you can sand the handle to the desired shape and give it a smooth shape.

The homemade product turned out to be gorgeous in appearance, the blade of the knife has a high hardness, but there remains an unknown issue of the fragility of steel, and it is also not known how much it will rust.
This project is completed, I hope you liked the homemade product, and you found useful thoughts. Good luck and creative inspiration if you decide to repeat this. Don't forget to share your ideas and homemade products with us!
