Shnyaga or flying board “Scarecrow”?
Hello! Snow has fallen, winter is coming, New Year is approaching, the year of the crowing rooster. To make it more fun for you to celebrate the New Year and spend time in the fresh air, I decided to show you the principle of building a very interesting aircraft. The language did not turn to call this device an aircraft model, although it has all the signs of such, model aircraft designers call it “Shnyaga”.
Some aircraft modelers make such aircraft and call them boards. you can read and see about them on the Park Flyer website.
But these boards are quite primitive, easy to manufacture and differ in many ways from the real Shnyaga, which have a more aesthetic appearance, beautiful silhouettes and more resemble aircraft models.
During my life in aircraft modeling, I also created several different types of aircraft models – Shnyag.
Let's go directly to creating such a model. For the construction of such an aircraft, you can take various materials, ultimately it all depends on the size of the future model and the power of your engine. The author builds his model from the usual ceiling tiles – “ceilings” (the usual ceiling thickness is 3-4 mm).
I propose to build such a model from a simple sheet substrate under the laminate, 5 mm thick.

Any universal, moisture-resistant glue is used for ceiling tiles.
I usually use ” KIN “.
We begin the work on creating the model with a printout of the drawings. If you do not have a printer, you can copy the drawing from the monitor onto the tracing paper, select the desired size and set all the dimensions, and then transfer everything to the material of your choice.
Ready-made patterns of construction details.
And these are already cut blanks.
The main supporting platform of the model, on which all the structural parts will be attached, is reinforced with a carbon rod or tube, author uses a wooden, pine lath.
For this, a recess is cut in the plane in the form of a groove. Carbon or lath is fixed in this recess with glue.
The author does not show the process of assembling the floats, but it is quite simple and should not cause any difficulties.
Finished floats are mounted on the bottom surface of the supporting platform.
This is how the assembled floats look.
The tips of the floats are made from pieces of Penoplex insulation or any dense foam. The glued pieces are sharpened in the shape of the float with sandpaper.
The lower part of the fuselage structure is mounted on the underside of the platform.
The author starts local wrapping the model with colored tape.
The next step is to adjust the tail, rudder and elevator blanks. The horizontal part of the tail is a stabilizer, we also reinforce it with carbon fiber or a wooden lath, similar to the carrying platform.
The wrapping with colored tape continues.
Before mounting the steering surfaces, we also wrap them with colored tape.
We mount the tail unit. Finishing the wrapping.
Installing the servos and connecting the control rods.
Mount the engine compartment.
We make rods for the elevator and mount them in place. The rods can be made from carbon rods or 2mm wire.
Glue the nose of the fuselage.
The final view of the model.
Video of the flight of such a model.
And this is me showing you the flight of the Scary board
At this point, let me finish your story. Which model to build “Shnyaga” or “Scarecrow” is up to you. I wish you success in creating the model and successful flights on it.
Good health to all, Valerian Samodelkin .
