Hello, dear readers and homemade products !
A very practical furniture in the corridor is a shoe cabinet, and in order not to put on shoes while standing , many people use it as a seat.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “Vladimir Natynchik DIY” will tell you how he made a banquet for the corridor, which also has a shelf for shoes.
Most of this project will be made of metal, and welding will be required.
Materials required for DIY.
– Steel profile tube 20 × 20 and 10 × 10 mm, strip, round tube 12 mm in diameter
– Adjustable screw furniture support
– Plastic plugs with nut M8
– Artificial leather
– Sheet laminated chipboard , foam rubber 30 mm thick
– Self-tapping screws for wood, washers
– Primer for metal, golden paint.
Tools used by the author.
– Furniture stapler
– Miter frame for angle grinders
– Abrasive “coral” grinding disc, flap disc
– Screwdriver, cobalt drills for metal
– Air compressor, pneumatic airbrush
– Electric spray gun
– Welding machine, chameleon mask
– Magnetic corners for welding
– Circular saw, cold forging machine
– Multifunctional angle ruler, tape measure, marker.
So, the frame of the banquet will be made of a square shaped tube 20 × 20 mm.
Using a grinder with a miter bed, Vladimir cuts four pieces of 800 and 350 mm long. Parts are immediately cut at an angle of 45 degrees, this must be taken into account when marking.
Vladimir performs cleaning of the surfaces of workpieces from rust using a grinder with a “coral” cleaning disc. Unlike a petal disc, it does not leave deep scratches and perfectly sands surfaces even with small indentations and bends.
From these details, the master assembles a rectangular frame, checks its diagonals, and welds into a single whole.
Welding seams are cleaned with an ordinary flap disc.
As a result, he got two identical frames measuring 800 × 350 mm.
From the same 20-th square pipe, four posts 320 mm long are cut.
The posts are alternately fixed to the corners of the lower frame using magnetic corners and welded to it.
Having welded the upper frame to the racks, the master provided eyelets for attaching the seat. He cut them out of a steel strip and made holes in them. These parts are fixed at the top corners of the frame.
It was also decided to make the bottom shelf of metal. Vladimir chose steel tubes with a diameter of 12 mm for this.
The tubes are cut 760 mm long, and welded between the lower ribs of the frame.
To maintain an equal distance between the tubes, the author places a wooden block before grabbing each next tube.
The author welded a steel square lintel under the middle part of the shelf-lattice. This will add strength to the shelf.
In the corners on the underside of the frame, the master welded in elongated nuts, into which the screw furniture supports will be screwed. This solution allows you to compensate for unevenness in the floor and set the bench evenly.
A pair of decorative elements in the form of volutes was made by the author on a homemade bending device using the cold forging method. These parts are also made of 20×20 shaped tube. Balls are welded to the open ends of the pipes, and the finished curls are welded into the sides of the frame.
How Vladimir made a bending machine was described in detail in a recent article.
Before painting, it is advisable to degrease the surface. The author applies a couple of coats of primer to the metal using a pneumatic airbrush.
Of course, an airbrush requires an air compressor, which is not available in every workshop. A more affordable and portable tool for these tasks is the electric spray gun.
The seat is based on a chipboard sheet with a thickness of more than 16 mm. Since it will not be visible, you can use an OSB of a similar thickness.
From this material Vladimir cut a rectangular piece measuring 800 × 350 mm on a circular saw.
Again, all parts of the base will be hidden, so it can be cut out and normal hacksaw.
The upholstery will be an imitation sheet leather. Between it and the base, foam rubber with a thickness of 30 mm is placed in two layers.
The upholstery is fixed along the perimeter from the bottom side of the base using a furniture stapler. The staples should be driven in at a distance of 10 mm from the edge, so they will hide under the frame.
The seat is attached to the frame with wood screws. Their length should be selected in advance so that they do not go right through the chipboard.

A great way to add a decorative finish is to apply a few strokes of golden paint to the frame.
Spraying a spray paint on a plank and dipping a sponge into it, the artist tints some elements of the frame.
This is the furniture for the corridor. It can be installed not only at home, but also in a store or office.
Thank Vladimir for a master class on making a powerful and reliable banquets with a shoe compartment!
