How to make a hand hold for a circular saw
Hello dear readers and DIY !
Circular and miter saws are one of the most common machines, even in a small carpentry workshop. They must follow the safety rules, for which many devices have been invented.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “DENDEN TV” will tell you how he made a manual clamp that allows you to quickly and reliably fix a small part on the carriage for a circular saw. This device is also suitable for a miter saw.
This the tool is very simple to manufacture, and can be easily modified to suit your tasks.
Materials necessary for home-made.
– Sheet plywood
– Sheet leather
– Self-tapping screws with countersunk head
– Grinding discs with Velcro
– Linseed oil, two-component second glue, sandpaper.
Tools used by the author.
– Screwdriver
– Multifunctional drill guide
– Wood drills with countersink
– Forstner drills
– Hand milling cutter, radius cutter with thrust bearing
– Neiler electric
– Electric jigsaw
– Orbital sander
– Circular saw
– Drum and belt sanders
– F-clamps, chisels, bevels
– Silicone glue application tool set
– Joiner's caliper, tape measure, compasses, metal ruler, pencil, brush.
Manufacturing process.
So, the author decided to make this device from a very affordable material – plywood. To begin with, he cuts out two pairs of rectangular blanks on a circular saw.

The first pair of parts is glued together and fixed with clamps or a nailer. This blank will be used to make a V-shaped clamping fork.
The second pair of blanks is also glued together, and the glue is leveled with a silicone brush.
Then using a compass and a bevel, the master marks out the contours of the V-shaped workpiece.
To make a neat bend in the inner upper corner, the author drills a through hole using a Forstner drill with a diameter 40 mm.
Instead of a drilling machine, he uses a conventional screwdriver with a multifunctional drilling guide.
Next, the workpiece is cut with an electric or manual jigsaw along the marked contours. It is advisable to leave a small margin for further processing.

Disadvantages of cutting with a jigsaw are eliminated on a drum sander.
In the upper part of the resulting part, the edges of the future groove are marked at a distance equal to the thickness of the workpiece.
To cut the groove, the master uses a circular saw with a carriage. The overhang of the saw blade is set to a third of the thickness, and the necessary recess is formed in several passes.

Bottom the notches are additionally aligned with a flat chisel.
From the second, longer rectangular blank, the master will make handle.
Slightly bending the metal ruler, the arcuate contours of the future part are marked and cut out with a jigsaw.

The edges of the workpiece are ground and sharp corners are rounded.
Now a manual router comes into play. A radius cutter with a thrust bearing is installed on it, and with its help the edges of both workpieces are rounded.

< a href = "https://usamodelkina.ru/uploads/posts/2021-01/1610477148_pri-096.jpg" rel = "prettyPhoto">
After milling, both parts are ground with an orbital machine and manually.

The parts are glued together using two-component second glue. Moreover, the components of the glue are applied to different parts, and setting occurs immediately after their connection.

To strengthen the connection, the master drills a pilot hole and countersinks it. For these purposes, it is better to use a drill with a countersink bit.
A long self-tapping screw with a countersunk head is screwed into the hole.

To make the tool more pleasant and comfortable to hold in your hand, you can additionally braid the handle.
From sheet leather the author cuts out a strip about 30 mm wide.
This strip is wrapped around the handle. The strip is fixed with a second glue at several points.

From of textured rubber, a pair of pads are cut to improve the grip of the clamp with the workpiece and carriage. These pads are glued to the ends of the V-shaped clamp.

< a href = "https://usamodelkina.ru/uploads/posts/2021-01/1610477240_pri-152.jpg" rel = "prettyPhoto">
It remains to saturate the exposed wooden surfaces with linseed oil, and the device is ready.

This is Denis's pressure.
Now it will be safer to handle small parts on the carriage.

Of course, this device can be made from a branch of a suitable shape, but this is at your discretion .
Thank you Denis for the simple , but a useful clamp for processing small parts on the carriage of a circular saw.
