LED ring light for studio shooting
The ring light is a useful accessory for photographers and studio bloggers. The quality of the lighting can drastically affect the image.
In this article, the master will share and tell us how you can make such a ring lamp yourself. The peculiarity of its assembly is the alternating LEDs of warm white and cold white glow, and with the help of a dimmer, you can control the brightness of each branch by adjusting the color scheme.
Tools and materials:
-Disc made of MDF 2 mm thick and 30 cm in diameter; < br> – Acrylic sheet; – Tripod mount; – LED strip SMD 5050 warm white and cold/normal white; – LED dimmer 12V – 2 pcs; – Switch;
– Spray paint matte black and matte white;
-Wood plank;
-Sheet of white plastic;
-Aluminum foil tape;
-Circulum;
-Saw blade;
-Drilling machine;
-Marker;
-Rule;
-Carpentry glue;
-Multimeter; -Soldering iron; -Hot glue gun; -Threaded sleeve; -Lower module XL4015 DC-DC 5A; Step one: ring
First, the master cuts out a disc with a diameter 30 cm. Draws a 22.5 cm circle on the disk and cuts around.
Cuts acrylic of the same diameter.
Drills a number of holes on the MDF disk for fasteners and ventilation.
Step two: wooden case
For electronics, the master makes a wooden box.
Cuts off four wooden planks. Screws in the screws in the center of the long slats.
Then he glues the box. Fastens a MDF ring to it.
Step three: walls
Cut strips out of plastic. Bonds them on the inner and outer rings.
Glues an aluminum foil reflector.
Step four: LED strip
In this lamp, the master used 5050 SMD LED strip with cold/normally white and warm white LEDs.
The strips need to be cut into three LEDs. To prevent them from closing to aluminum foil, a narrow masking tape must be glued along the edges of the reflector. Then LED strips are glued in alternating order cold – warm – cold, etc.
Then solder sequentially LED strips, also through one. Those. two lines cold white and warm white.
Now you need to check the installation is correct.
For testing, he used a power supply. I set the voltage to 12 V and the current to 3 A. After connecting, I found out that the maximum power consumption is 2.25 A. So for operation you need a 12 V 2.5 A. power supply.
After testing , for additional fixation and isolation, applies hot glue along the edges.
Step five: scheme
Before installation circuits need to configure the DC/DC converter. The circuit uses an XL4015 DC-DC 5A constant current module to power the LEDs.
A power supply is required to configure the module. The master sets the output voltage on the power supply to 15 V and 4 A, then connects it to the input of the converter module. Connects the multimeter probes to the output of the converter.
Using the potentiometer on the module board, sets the voltage to 12 V, then sets the current to 2.5 amperes.
Using this module in the circuit allows you to connect any adapter from 12 to 24 V to the input. maximum current 5 Amperes.
To adjust the brightness, the master uses two dimmers, one for each LED branch.
Step six : assembly
The master made the lid for the box from matte acrylic. Cut out holes on the sheet for the power button, dimmer rods and power socket.
Sets the button and a connector into the holes in the cover. Connected according to the scheme.
Installed the cover into place and secured with screws. I installed the handles.
Then he paints the back of the lamp with matte black paint.
After drying paints installs threaded bushings.
Acrylic has two protective films on both sides. For light scattering, the master removes the film from one side only. Then he screws in the acrylic disc.
Sets the ball head for attaching the lamp to a tripod.
Installs the holder for the smartphone.
You can now mount the ring light on the tripod and connect the power. The master uses an adapter for a Wi-Fi router as a power source. Its parameters are only 12V 1A, but even with this adapter, the LED ring lamp shines quite brightly.
Everything is ready.
Below you can see a few photos taken with different modes of lamp glow.
