How to make a portable AirBank (compressed air battery) for a car, garage, workshop
Hello dear readers and homemade products !
Compressed air is used in many modern workshops – with its help a variety of tools are set in motion, you can quickly remove dirt and dust, spray paint, and many other operations.
To provide the required air pressure and accumulate a reserve, air compressors are used.
In this article, George, the author of the YouTube channel “George Kosilov”, will tell you how you can make a compressed air accumulator with universal connectors.
This homemade product is very easy to manufacture, and does not require welding.
Materials required for homemade products.
– Freon cylinder
– Manometer, pressure reducer
– Pneumatic fittings, valves
– Pneumatic fittings, couplings, quick-release connector
– Pneumatic fitting (union)
– Brass ball valve
– Brass tees
– Spools 1/8 spools m8 m10
– Anaerobic glue (thread lock), second glue.
Tools used by the author.
– Air compressor
– Screwdriver, drills for metal
– Tap holder with ratchet
– Pipe taps
– Pipe dies.
Manufacturing process.
As you may have guessed, for this homemade product you need a “freon” cylinder. Such empty cylinders can be obtained from organizations that service air conditioners or refrigerators.
The first step is to bleed the residual pressure from the cylinder, and unscrew the valve using a wrench. The refrigerants used in air conditioning systems and refrigerators are not flammable, so these works are quite safe.
Cut into a cylinder non-standard thread, and the master drills it with a 12 mm drill.
Now you need to cut ½” threads. The tap turned out to be too short, and the cylinder handles prevent it from rotating.
The author used the socket as an adapter, and cut carving.
Chips during cutting will inevitably get inside the cylinder, and you need to get rid of it, for example, using a magnet.
In the simplest version, you can screw a quick-release a 1/8 ”connector, and use a two-way valve to fill the bottle.
Before connecting to the line, you must close the valve, and open it only after connecting to the cylinder. Disable, of course, you need to in the reverse order.
To make the device more versatile, Gregory decided to install a tee.
First, a ½ inch transition is required. The thread on it is cut with a die for pipes.
A hole is drilled in the side wall of the brass tee and a 1/8 “thread is cut.
Anaerobic glue is applied to the adapter thread (thread lock) , and the adapter is screwed into the neck of the cylinder.
Similarly, sealing the joint with anaerobic glue, master winds the tee.
A quick connector and a brass ball valve are screwed into the side holes of the tee.
A fitting is screwed into the tap ((inch nipple).
In the tee, the last 1/8 inch free hole remains, the author made it specifically for installing a pressure gauge.
In fact, the device is ready.
After waiting for the glue and the sealing joint to harden, the master connects the air line through a flexible hose to the cylinder connection and opens the ball valve.
The cylinder fills up very quickly, and the pressure in it reaches 7 ATM.
After refueling, the tap closes, the line is disconnected.
It is desirable to complete the device with a short air hose.
To check, the author flattened the wheel of the car. The volume of air in the cylinder was enough to raise the pressure in the wheel to 2.5 Atm.
The same pressure remained in the cylinder. The remains can be used to pump up a few more low pressure wheels.
The pressure in the pneumatic system can reach 8 bar when the compressor is running. Seizing this moment, he pumped up the balloon to 8 atm.
Such freon cylinders are not very stable, since there are only three “legs” at the bottom and they are close to the center. Georgy came up with a simple solution – to glue this rubber ring to the bottom of the cylinder (it used to be a tire for a baby carriage wheel).
You can fix it in the desired position with a second glue.
Now you have purchased a cylinder stability, and some protection against impacts on the bottom.
Application ideas such gadgets can be very different, it all depends on your imagination.
Of course, not in every the garage has a powerful air compressor, or needs to replenish the air on the road. This can be done at any gas station. There “air” is usually free.
In this case, you will need such a spool to connect the cylinder.
It can be cut into a tee, or you can make an adapter with
In the same way, you can fill a cylinder from a automobile air compressor .
Thanks to Georgy for recommendations on the manufacture of a portable compressed air battery.
Good mood, good health, and interesting ideas to everyone!
