Having left for forced quarantine, he decided not to sit idly by, but to try to do something necessary and useful and involve his children in work. No sooner said than done, and the choice fell on the manufacture of karting.

Step one: frame
In this homemade product, a ready-made go-kart frame is used. The frame is old and some parts are already rusted. Engine, pedals, cable, etc. were dismantled. The frame is free of dirt and rust.

The kart had a seat, but it was metal and in a rather poor condition … Riding on a metal seat, in a vehicle without a suspension, is still a pleasure. It was decided to install an exercise bike seat on the kart.

The frame was painted yellow.

The card uses 5.5 A/h 3.6 V lithium-ion batteries. The batteries are not new, they have already traveled about 5000 km on an electric bike.

The gas pedal is, in fact, a potentiometer and a strip of metal with a spring. The master glued a rubber pad to the pedal. The pedal itself was fixed to the frame under the right foot.

Next, install the engine and put on the chain.

The master printed the front panel of the control unit on a 3D printer. It includes a display with voltage, current, capacitance and several switches (forward/backward, switch, brakes, light).

The rechargeable battery provides 55 volts. To power the LED strip, you need a voltage of 5V. The wizard installs a buck converter into the circuit. The LED strips themselves are fixed on the frame by the card.

Children will ride on the map and security was an important task. The most dangerous part in the map is the drive (motor shaft, chain, sprockets). In order to close this part, the master made a casing out of tin.

Another important safety element is brakes. The kart already had a regular brake that worked well enough, but the master wanted to be sure that the child who wants to stop can do it 100%. The motor controller has two digital inputs for completely shutting down the motor. He made a special pedal, + brought out the wire and connected a switch on the control panel.

Before testing karting, the master once again checks all units and parts – wheels, tires, brakes, steering.
