DIY cable tracker Hello Samodelkins and site guests! When repairing your car, sometimes you need to find a broken wire in a bundle that is wrapped with electrical tape, or hidden in a corrugation. For this purpose, a device called a cable tracker serves. It costs a lot of money, so I decided to make such a device with my own hands. And I did it, and even very well. Here is a diagram of the device.

It consists of a low frequency generator and a receiver. How does he work? We turn on the generator, and to the X1 connector we connect the wire we are testing, which is cut off in the bundle. Then we turn on the signal receiver and begin to advance the antenna wire along the tested wiring harness. In this case, a sound signal from the generator is heard in the receiver loudspeaker. As long as the signal sounds in the speaker, then our wire is not damaged. And as soon as the signal disappears, then in this place of the harness there is a break in our wire. To assemble this device, we need the following parts and tools.
Details:
Transistors MP25 -3 pieces, KT315G -2 pieces, MP40 – 2 pieces, P213B -1 piece.
Resistors MLT -0.25 W – 7.5 kOhm – 2 pieces, 47 kOhm -2 pieces, 910 ohm-1 piece, resistors SP 1- 47 kΩ -1 piece, SP 1 250 kΩ-1 piece , MLT- 0.25 W 1.5 com-1 pc, 100 com-1 pc, 430 com -1 pc, 5.1 com -1 pc, 3.3 com -1 pc.
Capacitors 0.02 uF -2 pcs, 0.01 uF- 1 pc, 220 uF * 16 V -! Piece, 10 microfarads * 16 V – 2 pieces.
AL307V LED -1 pc, telephone capsule Ta -56 -1 pc, small-sized speaker with resistance 8-16 ohms. I used with a resistance of 40 ohms – it works well. Toggle switch – 2 pcs, momentary button -1 pc, battery “crown” -1 pc, power supply from 0 to 15V, mounting wire, printed and circuit boards, a small piece of 5 mm plywood, bolts and nuts M3.
Tools: An electric drill, drills, a soldering iron and its accessories for soldering, pliers, wire cutters, a screwdriver, two small cases, a hacksaw for metal and wood.
Let's start assembling.
Step -1. Solder the generator circuit on the circuit board with petals. Shown in the photo.

We check the correctness of the assembly and place it all in a suitable plastic case.

Checking the device's performance by connecting 12 V power from the power supply.

A momentary button is needed to test the generator, and turn off the earphone while the generator is running. When working in a car, the generator can be powered from the car battery.
Step -2. We solder the receiver circuit on the printed circuit board. We fix the P202E transistor on an aluminum corner, and immediately next to it I screw the speaker onto a textolite strip. Shown in the photo.

Step -3. I check the correct assembly and operability of the receiver. I place everything in a suitable case.

I bring out the antenna wire from a copper wire 1 mm thick in insulation.
