In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “Damir Z” will tell you how you can make a beautiful lampshade and lamp from wood scraps.
This the project is good for those who have a small carpentry workshop, because there are often many different scraps in it. The main parts are very simple and can be ordered from a carpenter.
Materials needed for home-made.

Manufacturing process.
So, the main material for this homemade will serve as trimming of oak slats 20 × 20 mm.
The main task of the master is to cut a lot of 20 × 20 × 20 mm cubes from wood. < br> These cubes can be ordered from the carpentry shop, or cut the slats into cubes by hand using a miter box and a hacksaw.
He performs this operation using a miter saw … The limiting block is pressed against the stop with an F-clamp at a distance of 20 mm from the edge of the saw blade teeth.

After cutting, sand the edges with sandpaper.
Here this is how the first two layers of the lampshade will look like.
Then the master made a frame around which the lampshade from cubes will be assembled. The frame is a tall cylinder with a diameter of 90 mm. A plastic bottle was taken as a basis. The author wrapped it with a sheet of plastic, and fixed the edges with tape.
The plastic construction is convenient because excess glue will not stick to it. The same cylinder can be made of cardboard by pasting it with adhesive tape on the outside.
Of course, the diameter and height of the cylinder can be chosen at your discretion. It should be borne in mind that when assembling a lampshade from 20 mm cubes, its final outer diameter will be 40 mm larger than the cylinder diameter.
Received the frame is glued to the cut plastic sheet with a hot glue gun or double-sided tape.
Around the frame is glued to the base with strips of double-sided tape.
The first row of cubes is fixed on scotch tape. To maintain the required spacing between the walls of the cubes, the master made a small square.
Each of the rows will contain 12 20-mm cubes – this is the optimal amount for an inner diameter of 90 mm.
Accordingly, the angle between adjacent walls of adjacent cubes should be 360/12 = 30 degrees.
Cubes should be positioned so that so that the newly formed “ends” are directed inward and outward of the cylinder. This will reduce build distortions.

The next row of cubes is glued to the previous one with a colorless transparent glue. The cubes are displaced to the side so as to cover the slots of the first row.
So all subsequent rows are typed in the same way.

After the glue hardens, the frame is carefully removed from the lamp shade-cylinder.
So, the lampshade is almost ready, its outer surfaces can be additionally processed on a grinding machine.

A disc made of sheet plywood will serve as a base. Such a disc can be cut with a screwdriver and a ballerina cutter , or with a hand-held milling cutter with a circular tooling.
The edge after cutting the disc is ground on an orbital machine.
On the base is marked and drilled three holes for installing the racks.
Now three stands from the same 20 × 20 mm bar are glued and screwed to the disc.

The lamp holder is attached to the posts with screws with a press washer.
The wire can be brought out through the center of the base, or, as the author did, through the gap between the cubes .
The gap had to be slightly widened with a dremel.

LED retro Edison lamp is screwed into the socket, bottom part the cylinder is lubricated with glue, and pressed against the base.
Of course, to develop the texture of the wood, the surfaces of the lampshade should be impregnated with linseed oil, or varnished.
Everything is ready, you can turn on the light.
