Funny elephant – chemical experiment

Funny elephant - chemical experiment

Hello! I want to show you the super experiment “ Elephant Toothpaste “. Children are very fond of spectacular and entertaining experiments. This chemical experiment is not difficult to repeat and everyone will like it. It is a very simple and funny scientific experiment, as a result of which there is a rapid eruption of a huge amount of foam. All reagents and materials can be found in any household or bought specially for the experience. The author of YouTube channel DIY bama called it: “ Toothpaste – funny elephant ” (Funny Elephant Toothpaste).
As the author writes: Choose from 10 the most interesting chemical reactions, this should be one of them. Over the past few years, he has conducted this experiment to his children more than 50 times.
I suggest you read this amazing experience in the author's video:
We need the following ingredients:
– hydrogen peroxide ( hydrogen peroxide );
– food coloring;
– saturated potassium iodide (< i> potassium iodide );
– dishwashing detergent/liquid soap;
– yeast.
And also:
– rubber (medical) gloves ;
– goggles;
– glass flask with a narrow neck or transparent bottle;
– kitchen sponge;
– plate or pallet;
– glass beaker (laboratory).
Funny elephant - chemical experiment Potassium iodide is a white crystalline powder. Potassium iodide is characterized by a high degree of hygroscopicity – it absorbs moisture especially quickly. It dissolves freely in the aquatic environment. You can find it in pharmacies.
Warning : 20% hydrogen peroxide solution (or higher) is very corrosive, please wear gloves and goggles when handling it.
Elephant Toothpaste ” is the process of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, and potassium iodide and yeast act as catalysts, breaking down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. Then liquid soap is mixed with oxygen and water and turns into foam.
The author of the experiment, conventionally divided it into several levels. There are three levels – the first is the easiest, but his reaction is not very impressive.
But on the third level, the reaction is like launching a rocket!

– 10% hydrogen peroxide;
– food coloring;
– dishwashing detergent;
– yeast.

– 35% hydrogen peroxide;

– dishwashing detergent;
– saturated potassium iodide.

The foam rises higher with each level.
And now bonuses!

I think everyone will be happy after this exciting experiment! My son (he is eleven years old) found it on the Internet and decided to show and write about it and other DIY .
