When making or repairing various mechanisms and devices, springs of specific sizes and parameters are often required.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “Mr Tool Junction” will tell you how to make a small tool for self-production of compression and tension springs.
This project is not very difficult to manufacture, and it can be repeated even without using welding.
Materials necessary for home-made.
– Steel profile pipe, strip, plate, studs

The centers of the holes are marked and punched in the corners of the plate.
Drilling is enough thick metal master performs on a drilling machine. These holes are needed to attach the machine to the workbench, so you can also make them with a screwdriver.
The next part is designed to give direction to the wire being fed. Holes are made along its edges for fastening, and in the center – a thin hole for the wire.
This part must be placed in the middle of the wide side of the base, for which the author uses a combined angular ruler. < br> After that, the centers are marked, and counter holes are made in the base.
On the lower side of the base, the holes expand for the heads of the fastening screws.
The holes in the guide block are tapped. For the convenience of threading, you can use such a ratchet tap holder.
Then removed chamfer, and the part is screwed to the base with two screws.
Two pieces of 40 × 40 mm profile pipe will serve as stands for the crank.

The author marks the centers of the holes, starting from the top of the posts. The distance between them is 30% more than the diameter of each hole.

To do it right weld the racks to the base, all three pins are threaded through them. For convenience and accuracy, it is desirable to use magnetic corners.

On the axes, holes are sequentially marked and drilled perpendicular to the axes. They are used to cut the m4 thread for the wire fixing screw.
To bend the lever, cuts are made on it half the thickness of the metal at the bend points.
Now there is enough hand force to bend the part, fixing it in a vice so that the notch is slightly above the sponges.
For strength, folds need to be boiled.
The handle can be made rotating, or just weld a piece of pipe to the lever.
To protect against corrosion, machine parts can be primed and painted.
The parts are ready, you can assemble the machine, fixing the shaft and the handle with nuts.
Attach to it will be used on the workbench with four bolts.
The end of the spring steel wire is inserted through a hole in the guide block and pressed against the shaft by the screw head.
Everything is ready, you can wind the spring with the required number of turns. In this case, the technology of cold spring winding works without heating, quenching and tempering.
After finishing winding, the author cuts the wire with scissors for metal.
It remains to unscrew the clamping screw and the limiting nut, and remove the finished spring from the shaft.
Operations with shafts of smaller diameter are carried out in the same way.
It is important to control the laying of the turns by adjusting the shaft position and guiding the wire.

To remove the spring, you will have to bite the wire near the entrance to the hole.
