Meghan Markle and Harry: Queen told to 'step up' by commentator

Meghan and issued scathing claims about their time as working members of the during the two-hour long conversation. Friends of the former US President took aim at the couple in a series of Twitter posts, with one accusing them of performing a “publicity stunt”.

Former White House senior adviser Stephen Miller wrote: “Here’s the question Oprah should have asked Harry & Meghan: isn’t the whole point of the Royal Family that it’s not about you but about your country?

“It’s about service to the UK and the Commonwealth.”

He also seemed to defend the Royal Family, adding: “During President Trump’s head of state visit to the UK, I had the privilege of getting to meet several members of the Royal Family.

“They were unfailingly gracious & deeply committed to preserving the traditions and heritage of the UK.”

The ex-President’s former lawyer, Jenna Ellis, hit out at the Duchess of Sussex, writing: “Meghan not knowing what she was getting into marrying Prince Harry is ‘evangelicals’ for Biden not knowing what they were getting into voting Democrat. No one believes you.”

Right-wing political activist Jack Posobiec claimed that “a lot of people fell for Meghan Markle’s latest publicity stunt.”

Despite the backlash, the couple also found supporters within the social media platform who defended them from their critics’ remarks.

Responding to Mr Miller’s post, one user wrote: “Here’s a question @StephenM should have asked Trump: isn’t the whole point of a presidency that its not about you but about your country.”

Referencing Mr Trump’s attempts to overturn the November election results, another person added: “Interesting to hear public service high-roading coming from the guy who tried to help overthrow a legitimate democratic election just a few months ago.”

In response to Ms Ellis, one commenter said: “It is sad to see you go after Meghan.

“I hope it is not politically motivated and merely your disagreement with her actions because any person with common sense would be on Meghan’s side and not on the tyrannical Royal Crown.”

ITV aired the interview in full on Monday night, as well as streaming it on ITV Hub, Courtesy of Harpo Productions/CBS.

Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Tuesday saying the Royal Family is “saddened” to hear the full extent of Meghan and Harry’s struggles.

The statement added that the issues raised by the Sussexes are “concerning”.
