Hello, dear readers and homemade products!
Lighting plays one of the main roles in any interior, as well as the design of light sources. Surely each of you has seen classic lampshades in the form of cylinders, or truncated cones. Most often they are used in table and floor lamps.
Needless to say, purchased oversized lampshades are quite expensive and not always available, while this project presents an interesting alternative.
This article is from the YouTube channel “ThisWoodwork »Will tell you about making a decorative lampshade for a lamp.
Such homemade lampshades are not very difficult to manufacture, and they can be easily repeated in a home workshop.
Materials necessary for home-made.
– Thin sheet plywood
– A piece of fabric, dense self-adhesive interlining
– Sanding belts, joinery and second glue – – Edison LED lamps.
Tools used by the author.
– Japanese saw
– Belt grinder
– Drilling machine
– Forstner drills
– Band saw
– Hot glue gun
– Clamps, spring clips
– Joiner's vice
– Chisels, knife ,
– Square, tape measure, metal ruler, pencil.
For the manufacture of the frame of the lampshade, the author will use thin sheet plywood. First you need to make two rims to which the upper and lower edges of the fabric screen will be attached.
Having picked up a piece of plywood of sufficient size, arched parts are marked on it for the entire width of the sheet. The radius of the arcs remains the same.
All details are sequential cut on the band saw. The author leaves a small allowance for further processing.
When mentioning band saws and other machines, it may seem that such a project is too complicated. However, further alternatives will be proposed.
If you do not deviate from the design assembled by the author, then all these parts can be cut out with an electric jigsaw, or with a hand-held milling cutter with circular equipment. The option with a milling cutter is even preferable, because after it almost no processing of workpieces is required.
so that all parts have the same shape, the master glues them into a bag. A drop of hot glue is applied to each of the parts in the center and along the edges. The next one is immediately pressed against it.

From these arcs you need to get a quarter of a circle. Using a ruler and gon , the author marks the cut points.
Excess edges of the workpiece are cut off on a band saw and sanded.
After that, the package of blanks is disassembled into separate segments, and the remaining glue is carefully cleaned off with a chisel.
< a href = "https://usamodelkina.ru/uploads/posts/2021-03/1616015876_abz-049.jpg" rel = "prettyPhoto"> Of course they can peel off small strips of one layer of plywood, but this does not play a special role, because these details will not be visible.
Now out of four segments, a circle is laid out, on top of which the second same layer will be laid. Each segment of the second layer, coated with glue, holds the previous two together. Obviously, the seams of the joints of the upper circle should be offset by a symmetrical distance from the seams of the lower layer, in this case by 45 degrees.
When gluing, the author alternates second and carpentry glue. The first will allow you to quickly fix the details, and the second – the required bond strength.
Details are additionally pulled together with clamps, and the workpiece is left until the glue has completely solidified.
The second ring is glued in the same way. If the lampshade is in the shape of a cylinder, then the rings are made the same. In the case of a truncated cone, the upper ring is made of a slightly smaller diameter.
From the outside of the rim, it is advisable to remove excess glue by grinding the edge.
A circle with a diameter of 10 cm is marked on the plywood trim. This part is needed to attach it to the lamp holder. < br> In the center of the circle, a Forstner drill cuts a hole equal to the diameter of the cartridge.
Excess corners are cut off and the disc edge is sanded.
Now you need to make the lampshade spacers.
Having chosen the desired shape of one edge, and using it as a template, the remaining two are cut out. In total, you need three such spacers.
The frame will be assembled in something like this.
Connecting grooves are sawn at the edge of the central disc. In this case, each slot is located at an angle of 120 degrees with respect to both adjacent slots. That is, complete symmetry is observed.
Mating grooves are cut and at the edges of the spacers.
Neat slots are also made in the upper rim, into which the spacers will then stand.
A cut is also made on the upper edge of each spacer.
This is how all the elements are connected into a single structure.
For stiffening dense non-woven fabric on a self-adhesive base will be applied to the fabric screen of the lampshade.
From the outside, this base will be closed with a cut of fabric .
Considering the considerable length of material cuts, it is best to carry out the entire operation on the floor. The backing is cut first. Its width is the height of the future lampshade.
its sides are approximately 1.5 cm of the allowance. These areas will later be glued to the rims.
One edge of the fabric on the short side of the screen is folded up.
For gluing the screen the same hot glue is used to the rims, applied with a hot glue gun .
It looks like glued shade. It can be seen from the photo that the fabric allowances should have been made a little wider so that the rim could be wrapped with a cloth and hidden.
It remains to glue the spacers to the ring, and already their ends are inside the grooves in the upper rim.
After the glue has hardened, the lampshade can be installed on the lamp by passing the cartridge through the hole in the disk and fixing it with a nut. The bulb is screwed in last.
How to make a floor stand for this lampshade will be discussed in the next article.
