Hello, dear readers and homemade products!
One of the important parameters of the indoor climate is relative humidity. In most apartments, it is most often somewhat underestimated, which negatively affects the body of humans and animals.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “DIY YARI” will tell you how you can make a fairly simple humidifier that works on the principle of natural evaporation of water. < br> This project is easy to repeat at home.
Materials needed for homemade products.
– Power supply unit 12V
– PWM motor speed controller
– Antibacterial filter evaporators
– Screws, washers, nuts
– Sheet acrylic, two-component epoxy adhesive.
Tools used by the author.
– Air quality analyzer
– Digital anemometer
– Electric soldering iron with temperature control
– Ruler, marker, hacksaw, knife.
An indicative graph of the “comfort zone” of humidity and temperature is as follows. So, at low humidity (20%) and a temperature of 20 degrees, the sensations will be the same as at 16 degrees and a humidity of 65%.
I will not go into details of the negative effect of dry air on the body, it is only worth mentioning what is drier air – the more dust it contains.
Recently, ultrasonic humidifiers have become popular, quickly converting water into mist from the smallest drops.
Making a simple ultrasonic humidifier has already been described in a recent article.
The author has conducted several tests with a variety of models of this type, and the first of the disadvantages is the deposition of fog around the operating humidifier, from which all surfaces become wet. This is due to the fact that the fog drops do not have time to completely evaporate.
In addition, measurements were made not only of humidity, but also of air quality using this analyzer .
The normal content of fine particles (PM2.5) is up to 50 micrograms per cubic meter.
After the humidifier was running, the PM2.5 parameter jumped to 650 units. Actually, all the impurities contained in it were sprayed along with the water.
Another problem – bacteria grow quietly inside the humidifiers.
Of course, the classic version in the form of a wet towel on a battery, or wet cleaning of the room works flawlessly.
The author came across such a Natural air humidifier , which is hung directly on the radiator, and works even better than the “towel” version.
First of all, the high cost of such a unit confuses. It is also not suitable for hidden heating systems.
Manufacturing process. < br> Replaceable antibacterial filter evaporators from such, or similar humidifiers, have a fairly low cost, on their basis it was decided to make this project.
The master chose sheet acrylic as a body, and cut it, and removed the protective films.
The body-container is glued using two-component epoxy glue.
You can also choose a ready-made plastic food container or canister by the size of filters.
The author did not like the appearance of the glue seams, and he ordered the case from the aquarium manufacturer .
He also had to 3D print a couple of simple filter holders.

Both filters are installed in the holders one after the other, and clean water is poured into the container .
The fans are connected in parallel and connected to a 12V power supply through a PWM voltage regulator. At 9V, the fans are relatively quiet and produce good flow.
Even passing through two evaporative filters in series, the air flow is strong enough.
The initial humidity in the room before the test was slightly above 30%.
The humidity of the air leaving the humidifier reaches 50%. As a result, more than 200 grams of water evaporated during an hour of work.

According to the statements of the filter manufacturers, the service life is about three months, after which the antibacterial properties are lost.
Of course, you can consider the option of disinfecting the surface of the evaporators, – periodic irradiation with a small UV lamp (power supply 10-12V) .
Thanks to the author for an interesting version of a cold evaporation air humidifier.
