Emmanuel Macron branded 'disaster' in pandemic by Wright
The open letter signed by some 120 former senior staffers and 1,000 lower ranked military personnel suggests the possible need for a military coup.
Written by Jean-Pierre Fabre-Bernadac, a former officer, the letter warns Mr Macron “France is in danger”.
It said: “Several mortal perils threaten her.
“Even in retirement, we remain soldiers of France and cannot in the present circumstances remain indifferent to the fate of our beautiful country”.
They claimed France was “disintegrating with the Islamists of the hordes of the banlieue [suburbs] who are detaching large parts of the nation and turning them into territory subject to dogmas contrary to our constitution”.
[UPDATE] [POLL] [LATEST]
It comes as a Ipsos-Sopra Steria survey showed Mr Macron would win a Presidential run-off election against Ms Le Pen in 2022, but only narrowly.
The survey, which polled 10,000 people aged 18 or more online between April 9 and April 15, showed the two frontrunners were neck and neck.
But in a run-off election, Mr Macron would beat Ms Le Pen by 57 percent to 43 percent, with a 1.4 point margin of error.
POLITICO, however, showed in it’s ‘Poll Of Polls’ Mr Macron’s approval ratings have hit 60 percent, while his approval ratings are at 37 percent.
