When making homemade joinery, for example, cutting boards, you often need to round the corners.
This operation can be performed by roughly cutting the corners in an arc with a jigsaw, and then finalizing on a grinding machine. In this case, the radius of curvature will be slightly different, and you will also have to spend more time.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “Crazy Workshop” will tell you how you can make a template for a couple of predetermined curvature radii. This template is intended for use with hand router .
This device is very easy to make even in a small carpentry shop.
Materials necessary for home-made.
– Sheet plywood
– Block for cleaning sandpaper
– Joiner's glue, sandpaper.

Taking into account the size of the base of the router used, as well as the dimensions of the workpieces, the master cuts out a rectangular blank for the base of the template. For this, sheet plywood with a thickness of 20 mm or more is used.
In most cases, a square base with sides of 200 mm will be enough.
Next, the center is marked on the workpiece.
Arcs of the required radius are marked at two opposite corners. You can use round containers as a template, or use compasses .
The master cuts off the excess material at the corners on a band saw with a small allowance for further processing. Of course, you can use an electric or manual jigsaw.

In the center of the base, you need to drill a hole with a diameter of about 50 mm. It will be required to fix the template on small workpieces.
Having installed a crown of the corresponding diameter in the chuck of the drilling machine, and also fixing the workpiece with clamps, the master begins to drill a hole from one side. Drilling is performed at half the plywood thickness.
The part is turned over and aligned, the hole is drilled from the back side. This is how the author gets a round hole without chips around the edges.
Now four strips are cut from the same plywood.
Putting the base on a flat surface, two limiters are glued to its edges as follows.
As soon as the adhesive has set, the base flips over and the first pair of stops is pulled over the edge of the table. After that, you can glue on the second pair of stops.
In order not to wait until the glue hardens, and to securely fix the stops on the base, the master shoots them with nails using a nailer .
It remains to sand the device, saturate the surfaces with linseed oil, or cover with acrylic varnish to protect against impact moisture.
Everything is ready, to process the corner of the workpiece, you need to press two stops to the edges, and fix the assembly on the workbench with a pair of F-clamps .
The corners are machined using a cutter with an upper thrust bearing .
If the protruding angle is too large, then the milling must be done in several passes. Of course, it is better to cut off excess material in advance.
The author performs the same operation on a thick wooden board, first making a large radius rounding.
Turning the template over, and changing the angle, a small radius is milled.
Here is such a simple device for a hand router turned out by the master. Due to its simplicity, you can make several such templates with different radii of curvature (two for each template).
