Media publish information that the Western countries approached step of concluding arrangements for the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. The reason for this decision, says the source, is incident with Ukrainian ships in the Azov sea. It is reported by the Financial Times, reports “the League news Russia”.
According to the media, the new restrictive measures will be discussed at the meeting of foreign Ministers of EU countries on Monday, February 18, and may enter into force within the next two months.
One of the sources said that the sanctions will be directed against those individuals and companies who “participated in the capture of Russia’s three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Kerch Strait”.
Information was confirmed by the British TV channel Sky News. According to his sources, the EU and the USA intend “to coordinate their actions to increase pressure on the regime of President Vladimir Putin”, by introducing new sanctions in response to the detention of Ukrainian sailors. Restrictive measures may be announced in the coming weeks, said three of the interlocutor of the channel.
“Russia still holds the 24 Ukrainian seafarers. If you do not release in the near future, the EU will have to consider the possibility of sanctions against Russia,” he said.
In addition, the Ministry of foreign Affairs gave a commentary regarding the introduction of new European Union sanctions against Russian citizens. The pretext of this decision have called their involvement in the incident in Salisbury, noting that Moscow reserves the right to take retaliatory action.
