March in memory of Boris Nemtsov will be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Sunday, February 24, in Moscow and St. Petersburg will remember politician Boris Nemtsov. The participants of the March of remembrance will be held on the Boulevard ring from Passionate Boulevard to Sakharov Avenue. In the Russian capital, the March will start at 14:00.

Sunday’s event in memory of the Russian opposition will be the fifth. It was organized by several associations: founded by Boris Nemtsov of the Solidarity movement, “memorial” society, Foundation for the fight against corruption and the party “Parnassus”, “Apple”, the Party of change, the December 5 Party and the libertarian party. It is expected that participants will begin to gather on Strastnoy Boulevard at 13:00 and 14:00, the convoy with flags and posters will move towards the Sakharov Avenue.

Boris Nemtsov — one of the most famous politicians of the post-Soviet period. Early in his career he was Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region for several months had held the post of Minister of fuel and energy, and later became Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. Some time it was even called the successor of Boris Yeltsin.

In the early 2000s, Boris Nemtsov, joined the political opposition. In 2003 and 2007 he ran for the State Duma from the party “Union of right forces”, and in 2012 became co-Chairman of the party “Parnas”.

The evening of February 27 2015 the policy was shot on the Big Moskvoretsky bridge, near the Kremlin. The murder of Boris Nemtsov is not caught on CCTV footage.

During the trial it became clear that the opposition was followed by a few months. For murder was sentenced five natives of Chechnya. They were sentenced to prison terms from 11 to 20 years. However, neither the customer nor the motive to install and failed. In his final statement the defendants said that they did not recognise themselves guilty, and promised that in Chechnya, Boris Nemtsov and previously murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya put a monument.

The first March in memory of Boris Nemtsov was held in 2015, the day after the assassination policy. Then it was attended by 52 thousand people. In 2016 at March memory came 24.2 thousand people. In 2018, the action was attended by only 7.6 thousand activists. This year the organizers expect around 30 thousand participants.
