Western senators have prepared a new legislative draft on sanctions against Russia on the background of Moscow’s interference in the U.S. presidential election and the political situation in Ukraine. This material Thursday, February 14, will present the Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and democratic Senator Bob Menendez. It is reported by “Vedomosti“, reports the “League news Russia”.
According to Menendez, a group of senators tried to pass this bill last year. In the new, more stringent version we are talking about limiting the number of investors in transactions with the Russian public debt, the sanctions against Russian energy companies and banks.
The senators also propose to introduce sanctions against Russian project on production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) outside of Russia and individuals associated with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In November 2018, the senators said that the U.S. Congress does not have time before the end of the year to pass the bill. Menendez then told Bloomberg that the White house is also not very active in the issue of new anti-Russian sanctions.
One of the sources said that the sanctions will be directed against those individuals and companies who “participated in the capture of Russia’s three Ukrainian naval vessels in the Kerch Strait”.
In addition, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Denmark Anders Samuelsen wrote on Twitter that the EU is forced to consider the possibility of imposing sanctions because of the arrest by the FSB of Ukrainian seafarers in the event of illegal crossing of the Russian border.
