Namely, we will assemble with you a hydraulic press for pressing in bearings. A hydraulic press is quite a useful thing and every garage and not only a master wants to have it, only such presses are quite expensive, and for some rare tasks it makes no sense to buy it. This hydraulic press will be assembled on the basis of a hydraulic jack, which is much easier to buy than a full-fledged press, besides, a jack is no longer such a rare thing and is available to many, but it is worth noting the fact that we should not consider our homemade product as a serious tool for industrial purposes but as a useful home tool it will do its job just fine. Well, well, I think you shouldn't delay with a long preface, let's go.
For this hydraulic press we need the following, namely:
– Simple vertical hydraulic jack
– Thick sheet metal (metal plate)
– Screws
– Metal corner
– Pipes with threaded ends
– Adapters for screwing taken pipes into them (4 pcs.)
– Springs
From the tools we also need the following:
– Welding machine
– All necessary accessories for working with the welding machine
– Hammer
– Center punch
– Tap (for cutting internal threads)
– Bulgarian
– Cutting and grinding discs on the grinder
– Ruler
– Hexagons
– Screwdrivers
– Marker
– Construction corner
– Drilling machine or ordinary drill
– A set of drills of the required diameter, as well as a countersink
– Some kind of lubricating oil
Making a hydraulic press from an ordinary hydraulic jack:
Making this homemade product, let's start from the bottom. The basis for us will serve as a sheet of thick metal or the so-called metal plate. From this metal plate, we need to cut out a rectangle of such width so that the hydraulic jack of your choice can be placed on it, well, about 20-30 centimeters long (see photo).

These pipes will be the uprights on which the upper support section of the future hydraulic press will be installed. The adapters taken must be installed along the edges of the cut out at the beginning of the metal rectangle. To do this, we apply the adapters themselves and, using a marker, mark the places for drilling through mounting holes.

In order to prevent the drill from being pulled to the side during the start of drilling and, in order to drill the holes clearly in the right place, I advise you to do the same as the author did, namely, he took a punch and a hammer, with which he knocked out the holes (notches), so it will be easier to place the drill in the right place.

Then, using a drill and a countersink bit on the drill, countersink the holes on both sides.

And immediately after, we will place the hydraulic jack on the base. The jack should be installed exactly in the middle of this base, having centered the jack, mark the places for the mounting holes with a marker. And we drill these holes, in the same way as we drilled the fixing holes for the adapters earlier. And also countersink and thread the threads in these holes.

Since the screws of a suitable diameter are quite problematic to choose and, moreover, in our case the screws should be short, do not worry too much, as they can be easily cut off. To do this, turn the base over and, using a grinder, first cut off the excess length of the screws, and then grind them “flush” with a grinding disk, we need this so that the structure does not stagger while standing on a flat table.

These same hooks will need to be cut from a simple metal corner, and drilled several through holes in these blanks, for their fastening to the base and for fastening the springs. We immediately need to make 4 such blanks, a couple more for the counterpart, which we will make.

And again we repeat all the same actions as with all other mounting holes, namely, we make holes with a center punch, drill, countersink, cut a thread. We fasten the corners to the mounting screws and, if necessary, grind them, strip the length of the screws.

Such pipes can be purchased ready-made, ordered from a turner or carved yourself if you have such an opportunity. You choose the length of these very pipes for yourself, the longer these pipes are, the correspondingly larger object you can insert to press it in. But as a rule, the length should be such that the jack foot can reach and rest against the mating part.

Namely, we will need to cut out another metal rectangle, the same size as the base cut out at the beginning. This part will be movable and the jack foot will rest against it. In order for it to move up and down, it is necessary to make a pair of through holes with a diameter slightly more than the outer diameter of the pipes. We apply a rectangle to the pipes, parallel to the base and outline the pipes with a marker. After that, having already drilled the holes according to the marks.

Namely, take a sheet of metal and cut a rectangle out of it, in the center of which you need to drill a round hole for the jack foot. And also several mounting holes, do not forget to drill the counter holes in the most movable part and connect them together with a screw connection.

The mounting holes for them must be drilled exactly opposite those installed on the base. We put this moving part in its place and catch the springs.
