The collar is a tool for clamping cutting tools such as taps, dies, reamers, countersinks, and twists. Yes, there are a large number of factory options for inexpensive wrenches. But the vast majority of inexpensive factory wrenches are made of low-quality metal alloys, which are light and fragile, a wrench made of such a poor-quality material can be easily broken by cutting a thread into a large-diameter hole. The knob will be made thoroughly and have a large size, thanks to which, due to the long lever, you can cut threads anywhere without much effort. Well, well, I think you shouldn't delay with a long preface, let's go.
For this crank we need the following, namely:
– Square metal rod (at least 1cm wide)
– Metal screws
– Metal pipe
From the tools we also need the following:
– Marker
– Building corner
– Drilling machine or ordinary drill
– A set of drills of the required diameter
– Any lubricating oil
– Hammer
– Center punch
– Tap (for internal threading)
– Grinder
– Cutting and grinding discs for grinder
– Ruler
– Vise
– Hexagons
Wrench manufacturing:
We will start making the knob with its “rays” or handles. This is one of the main parts of our tool. For their manufacture, we will use square metal rods with a diameter of at least 1 cm. The thicker these parts of the structure are, the more reliable the structure itself will be. Choose the length of these parts individually, but remember that the longer they are, the easier it will be for you to turn the knob while threading. Also, due to the long handles, you can cut a thread in some soft material and into a hole of small diameter inertially, by turning the knob well, because of the long handles and long handles the tool will not have bad inertia.

On the square metal rod of your choice, use a tape measure (or ruler) to leave marks under the cut. The whole responsibility lies in the fact that the holes on both parts must be at the same distance from each other, otherwise there will be a marriage and you will have to cut off a new piece of the square metal rod again. In order not to bevel, we apply two segments to each other and leave marks with a ruler and a marker as shown in the photo below.

To knock out such holes, you need a hammer and a special center punch. We apply a punch to the marked point, and a light blow with a hammer on the punch is done, thereby leaving a very small hole in the metal, but which will already be enough to facilitate the drilling process.

It is important for us that the holes are made at right angles, without any slightest deviations to the side. The easiest way to drill such holes is to use a drilling machine instead of a simple hand drill. When drilling thick metals, remember to lubricate the drills with some kind of lubricating oil to minimize the risk of overheating your expensive drill.

You can check this by inserting screws into them, if they are inserted at all, then everything is fine and go to the next step, if they are not inserted, then this is a marriage. Next, we should take one of the handles, and in its newly drilled through holes, an internal thread should be cut, we need it to clamp two workpieces together using screws. To do this, we use a tap of a suitable diameter, with which we carefully cut the thread. If you do not have any other tap driver at all in our future tap, you can install the tap in the screwdriver.

To do this, we again need the square metal rod that we used at the very beginning. From this square rod, we need to saw off two absolutely identical segments. The length of these segments should slightly exceed the distance between the two through holes in the handle rods. We measure out the necessary segments with a marker and a ruler, then, holding the rod in a vice, carefully saw off the blanks using a grinder with a cut-off disk.

This is necessary in order to mark the places for drilling the next through holes in the just cut sections on new blanks. To do this, we leave marks with a felt-tip pen through the drilled holes in the handles (see photo). It is also important here that the holes are located at the same distance from each other, since the mounting screws will pass through these holes.

After the necessary holes have been drilled, we assemble the same sandwich that we collected earlier and already through the drilled holes we push the fastening screws of a suitable diameter. If your screws can easily go through all the holes drilled, then you can be congratulated, as you managed to drill all the holes correctly.

He had to take a grinder, put a grinding disc on it and grind off the entire protruding plane. If you used metal square rods of the same width, you can skip this step.

We find the middle, put a mark and carefully drill a small hole in diameter. Taps of different diameters will be clamped in this hole.

Their central hole must be made square. To do this, we disassemble the sandwich, clamp each short segment in a vice and carefully, using a square file, begin to grind the holes until, by connecting them back together, a clear square is obtained

The author cut such handles from a simple tube, which sat tightly on square rods.
