Hello, dear readers and homemade products!
As you know, such an important process as grinding is accompanied by the formation of a large amount of fine dust. Some of the electric sanders are equipped with a dust extraction system, but it is not able to remove the dust cloud that forms around the workpiece.
Of course, a powerful hood and air filtration system in the workshop will be good helpers, but they take up space and require financial investments.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “JSK-koubou” will tell you how to make a small table for grinding with a dust extraction system.
This project is very simple to manufacture, and easily replicable in a small carpentry workshop.
Materials needed for homemade.
– Sheet plywood, laminated chipboard, fiberboard, wooden beams
– Double-sided tape, carpentry glue, second glue.
Tools used by the author.
– Hand circular saw
– Screwdriver < br> – Set of crowns for wood and metal
– Forstner drill bits
– Multifunctional guide for drill
– Manual router
– Router cutters for wood
– Router cutters with thrust bearing
– Industrial vacuum cleaner – Marking thickness gauge
– Band clamp
– Digital square, pencil.
So, first of all, you need to determine the sufficient size of the working area. First of all, it depends not so much on the dimensions of the processed parts, but on the power of your vacuum cleaner … So you shouldn't make a grinding table too big.
The master chose 14 mm thick plywood as the material for the box walls and bottom.
Wall strips are cut with a hand-held circular saw and a guide for her. The latter is fixed together with the processed sheet on the workbench. At the same time, the author puts a sheet of foam plastic under the workpiece so as not to damage the surface of the tabletop with the saw blade.
Cut to length is carried out on a homemade vertical sawing machine.
Now you need make a selection of quarters around the perimeter of the wall parts. Along the lower wide side, and along the edges, the width of the quarters is equal to the thickness of the plywood. A wider 18-mm strip is removed from the top side along the thickness of the lid.
The middle is marked on one of the short side walls, and a hole for the hose is drilled as close to its upper part as possible. The hole is made with a Forstner drill although you can also use a crown.
Next, using the digital square , the master marks two lines at an angle of 25 degrees to the wide edge. This marking is done on the inside of both short walls.
Wooden planks are glued along the marked lines. They will serve as supports for internal partitions.
Considering the thickness the timber from which the beams for the countertop will be made, the author glues two more small blocks to the sides.
Now you can glue the side walls together, placing them “upside down”.

After drying glue, the seams are cleaned, and the main part of the box is ready.
Two partitions made of fiberboard are glued to the inclined supports. There should be no gaps between the partitions and the body.
Third partition has the shape of an isosceles triangle with a truncated apex. This part will be glued against the wall with the hole.
To be able to install the support beams, you need to make two slots for them in this part.
< a href = "https://usamodelkina.ru/uploads/posts/2021-07/1625248786_tls-125.jpg" rel = "prettyPhoto"> Of course, you can do it with an ordinary jigsaw or a hacksaw.
The author decided to go the other way and use a milling machine. Blocks are fixed on the perimeter of the marking on double-sided tape .
On a router a thrust bearing cutter is installed. This way, excess material is quickly and accurately removed.
If the double-sided tape is of good quality, then the sticks can be re-glued and a second cut can be made.
Place the partition in place, the joints are glued with a second glue.
Now you need to cut two beams out of plywood and glue them to the supports.
The last and most time-consuming operation is to drill many holes in the tabletop. The best way to do this is to use a screwdriver with a multifunctional guide .
The diameter of the holes should be small, in the range from 2 to 4 mm, it depends on their number and the power of the vacuum cleaner.
The finished tabletop with holes is glued into place.
The project has been completed, and it can be used in conjunction with a household vacuum cleaner and an additional cyclone filter. industrial vacuum cleaners are also great.
Now fine dust does not fly to the sides, but is immediately drawn through the holes.
It is enough to sweep large particles by hand without turning off the vacuum cleaner – they will also be pulled in.
I thank the author for the simple design of the grinding table.
Good mood, good health, and interesting ideas to everyone !
