The EU and NATO in exchange for Crimea: Saakashvili about the secret conversation with Poroshenko

In 2014, Petro Poroshenko, wanted to trade the Crimea for Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO.

This statement was made by Mikheil Saakashvili, the former President of Georgia, in an exclusive interview Dmitry Gordon, Ukrainian journalist, the resource LIGAnews.

Saakashvili said that in March 2014, Poroshenko told him frankly that, say, Georgia at the time, accustomed to the independence of Abkhazia and North Ossetia. Ukraine also can close eye on the “occupation” of the Crimea, if she promised membership in the EU and NATO.

Moreover, the Georgian politician asked Poroshenko why he decided that Ukraine will be allowed into the EU and NATO if they will give up Crimea.

Thirdly, Saakashvili stressed that the events in the Donbass can repeat the Crimean scenario.

At the end of the interview, Saakashvili said that such ideas heard not only from the President but from most of the Ukrainian elite.
