Hello, dear readers and homemade products!
One of the irreplaceable assistants in the workshop is a drilling machine. Most often, factory models are delivered “naked”, without additional drilling table accessories. You have to purchase them separately or create them yourself.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “J-woodworking 목공 일기” will tell you how he made a multifunctional drill table. This model is great for the carpentry shop, equipped with movable stops and clamps.
This project is quite simple to manufacture (welding and turning work is not needed), and requires a minimum of purchased materials.
Materials necessary for homemade work.
– Horizontal cam clamp
– Furniture panel
– Bolts, nuts, washers, wood screws
– Furniture mortise nuts – Epoxy adhesive
– 3M double-sided tape, sandpaper, wood glue.
Tools used by the author.
– Manual milling cutter
– Milling cutters for wood
– Drills for wood with countersink
– Neyler electric
– Drilling machine, band saw
– Forstner drills
– Circular saw, saw blades
– Square, knife, pencil.
The main material for this project will be a furniture board made of hard wood thickness 25 mm.
Two rectangular blanks with dimensions larger than the standard machine table are cut out of it.
The base is left solid, and several parts need to be made from the second blank.
The circular saw blade is set at an angle of 45 degrees (for greater accuracy, you can use digital protractor ). Two wide strips are cut from the sides, the remaining part is turned upside down, and two trapezoidal slats are cut off.
As a result, the table structure will be assembled as follows. So the author saves on relatively expensive T-shaped guides .
The only requirement is high-quality, dried wood and finishing impregnation of the elements of the finished product, so that it does not lead.
Before assembling the table, in the upper center panel you need to make a hole for a removable insert (this is where the drilling axis will be located). 5
After marking, the author glues four sticks to the panel on double-sided tape , creating a template for the milling cutter.
The overrunning milling cutter is installed on the milling cutter, and the process of cutting the “window” begins.
You can't take such a material thickness in one pass, and you have to periodically increase the cutter overhang.
A counterpart (replaceable insert) is cut according to the size of the hole obtained.
To properly glue all the elements, the author uses the rip fence of the circular saw. A wide strip along the edge of the base is glued first. Its second edge will be the first part of the V-shaped groove.
The position of the part is fixed with nails using a nailer .
Pressing the guide to the first part, the central panel is glued and fixed.
The last strip is mounted in the same way. Please note that the guide rails must remain relatively free and not stick to the base. To do this, you can wrap them with a thin wrapping film.
A plate is placed on top of the glued parts, and the structure is tightened with clamps.
After the glue hardens, both guides should freely come out of the grooves.
The structure is now turned upside down and the pilot holes are prepared using a wood drill with countersink. Short self-tapping screws are driven into them, additionally fixing the glued elements.
In the middle of the back of the table you need to make a cutout for the machine stand. Here the author used Forstner's drill .
Excess corners are cut off with a band saw, or with a regular hacksaw.
So, the base is ready, now you can grind all its surfaces, and saturate them with linseed oil or another protective mixture.
The main stop will also have a V-notch in the front of it. This construction is assembled as follows.
After gluing the elements, the joints are reinforced with self-tapping screws.
Glued on the back of the stop two additional stiffeners, and are also screwed on with self-tapping screws.
Now you can remove the guide rail and start processing it.
< a href = "https://usamodelkina.ru/uploads/posts/2021-07/1626693764_dpt-150.jpg" rel = "prettyPhoto"> Several small sliders need to be made from this rail.
To begin with, bore holes for bolts are drilled from the wide side of the rail.

The first movable element will be the side limiter for the parallel stop.
The position of the limiter will be fixed using a wing nut.
Similar sliders are made of table rails.
Oval holes for screws are made at the base of the stop. This will allow you to position the stop at a slight angle, and capture complex-shaped details.
The second movable element for the table will act as an additional front clamp.
It is assembled from two planks and a slat at the junction.
Masking tape is glued to the inclined edges of the sliders, and they are inserted into the grooves. < br> The clamp is applied and leveled from above. Both sliders target him with a nailer .
By removing the clamp together with the fixed sliders, a through hole is drilled through them. After that, the sliders are separated from the clamp.
Having drilled the holes obtained, furniture mortise nuts are screwed into them.
Now you can put the clamp in its place and screw it to the sliders with wing-head screws .
The clamp design is complemented by a pair of horizontal cam clamps . They are screwed to the base of the movable clamp.
Finally, all the elements of the table are ready, and you can put it in their place.
You can fix it either permanently, driving in self-tapping screws from the reverse side, or make it removable.
The author cut out several pieces, inserted them into the holes of the standard table , and attached to the bottom of the base.
Everything is ready, you can check the table in action.
Thanks to the author for the simple design of a multifunctional table for a drilling machine.
