Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws

Hello, dear readers and self-made people!
As you know, one of the indispensable helpers in almost any workshop are clamps.
Carpentry craftsmen especially need a large number and varieties of clamps. In such workshops “there are never too many clamps.” With all the external simplicity of this device, its cost is quite high, and given the need for large quantities, you often have to make clamps yourself.
In this article, Ivan, author of the YouTube channel “Crazy Workshop”, will tell you how he made C-shaped clamps with increased capture distance.
Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws This project is not very difficult to manufacture, and can be repeated in a small carpentry workshop.
To speed up the manufacturing process and improve the quality of products, the author makes them using various carpentry machines, but you can do without them.
Materials necessary for homemade products.
– Board 60 × 30 mm
– Bolts, nuts , washers, steel pin
– Bakelite wing nuts
– Furniture flange nuts
– Furniture hinges made of stainless steel
– Double-sided tape
– Joiner's and two-component second glue, sandpaper.
Tools used by the author.
– Screwdriver
– Self-centering drills
– Drills for wood
– Band saw
– Miter saw
– Drilling machine, orbital sander
– F-clamps
– Svenson's square
– Chisels, set of needle files
– Tape measure, pencil.
Manufacturing process.
The author has at his disposal a large number of F-shaped clamps, but almost all of them have a small grip depth of up to 70 mm.
This does not allow pressing the parts at a great distance from the edge.
Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws So, the master sketched a simple drawing of his project, starting from which the device will be made.
Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws The material for the clamps was an oak plank with a cross section of 60×30 mm.
Using a miter saw , he cut two pieces of 310 mm long.

Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws Using a band saw, the craftsman rounds the corners.

Now they are you need to mark the centers of the holes for the pressure screw.

The craftsman decided to make the clamping nut in the form of an L-shaped lever. This part is cut from a block left over from sawing a board.

Here the master uses a two-component second glue, which makes it possible to first screw in a pin greased with glue, and then quickly fix it.

Here furniture attachment nut will work much more efficiently.
Making simple C-shaped clamps with elongated jaws The height of the body in the area of the pressure pads decreases slightly. Excess material is also cut off at an angle near the future axis.

Having prepared the pilot holes with a self-centering drill, the master screwed it with self-tapping screws.

Of course, the size of this clamp can be increased or decreased.
