Almost every one of you is faced with polluted air every day in your apartment, office, or other small rooms. Even if you live in an ecologically clean area, it has little effect on the amount of “household” dust in the air.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “DIY YARI” will tell you how you can make an effective air purifier combined with a humidifier.
The fact that this device can increase the humidity in the room will be very useful during the heating season. This model uses the natural evaporation scheme.
This project quite easy to manufacture, and can be repeated at home.
The design of the purifier-humidifier is very versatile, and it can be done without using a 3D printer.

Of course, there are a huge number of different air purifiers, for example, such an advanced model as Xiaomi purifier 3 .
In addition to the rather high cost of the purifier itself, a lot of money will have to be paid for filters that need to be changed every 2-3 months.
Moreover, this model independently checks the presence of dust in the air, and starts cleaning. But the detector is tuned for very small particles, so to remove large dust particles, you need to turn it on for forced cleaning.
With all the electronic “bells and whistles” – such cleaners are nothing more than a case, a quiet fan, and a group of filters.
For the first prototype of a homemade cleaner, the master purchased a plastic basket with holes in the walls and a lid for it.
A large hole is made in the lid for air, and four small holes for attaching the fan.
Electronics will require a adjustable power supply and a good, quiet fan .
The power supply with voltage regulation was chosen by the master only to select the optimal speed, and check the noise level. In principle, a simple 12V power supply is enough for this fan, unless there will be an opportunity to reduce the speed.
The fan is fixed on the cover with four screws, and for now is installed to blow air into the case.
As filter, the master applied a nylon mesh with a very small cell, and closed the holes to it, fixing it to tape around the perimeter.
A couple of days operation, and the result of the device is noticeable without any devices. The dust has become much less.
In addition to the dust settling on the mesh and accumulating at the bottom of the container, a considerable amount stuck to the fan blades.
This is one of the mistakes that can be made when designing an air purifier. The filter must always be “in front” of the fan. So already purified air will pass through the fan, and dust will not accumulate on the blades.
As a result the fan was turned 180 degrees, and the filter mesh was fixed directly to its frame.
Now all the dust settles inside the container and on the mesh. Just like in a vacuum cleaner.
Before production the second, improved version, the master also thought about the need to humidify the air, which is especially important in the cold season.
Simple humidifiers today most often work on the principle of ultrasonic generation of “steam” – the smallest droplets of water. Such devices will produce a jet of steam regardless of the humidity level in the room.
Of course there is models with a built-in air humidity sensor.
One of the problems of such humidifiers is the need to fill exclusively with distilled water, otherwise all surfaces will be covered with a white layer of minerals.
The best way to humidify the air is the principle of cold natural evaporation. In a recent article , the master has already talked about the creation of such a humidifier.
This model is not bad, but the case for it is somewhat complicated to manufacture.
These types of humidifiers are devoid of the above-described disadvantages.
Here to the author I caught the eye of an additional add-on for the Xiaomi purifier , which performs the functions of a humidifier.
In fact, it is a plastic case with a water tank and an additional replaceable mesh evaporator.
So, for the second version of the cleaner, the master bought a small bucket with a lid and solid walls (no holes). < br> He also found very cheap filters for a Philips air humidifier. One such filter will cost 200 rubles, but it is reusable and can be washed.
You will also need the same quiet fan and regulated power supply .
Already many masters use 3D printers everywhere, and design models for their devices.
The author has created a 3D model in the Fusion360 software package (I also master it and recommend it to everyone).
Since his own printer was not available to the master (at the moment he is in another country), he turned to local 3D printers to print the models. To his surprise, the price for a 120-gram model was almost equal to the cost of a 3D printer.
As a result, a Ender 3 3D printer was purchased – an excellent model that prints out of the box with dignity. This printer is assembled in an hour and a half.
The exact same model has been working for me for six months. For the price of two good screwdrivers, you get your own CNC machine for the production of plastic parts.

The mesh filter is put on the frame as follows.
The frame itself can be made from another smaller bucket, having drilled many holes in it. So you can do without a 3D printer.
This construction is placed inside the bucket. A partition is inserted on top of it, and a fan is fixed.
In the upper part of the case, the master carved dremel rectangular openings for air inlet.
Of course, the holes with jagged edges don't look good, so the grating was printed.

The author measures the humidity of the incoming and outgoing flows using this air parameter monitor .
As you can see, everything works fine.
Several days of tests have shown high efficiency of the device in cleaning the air from dust.
As already mentioned, mesh the filter can be reused to wash away the accumulated dust.
