Many of you are engaged in soldering various boards, circuits, and repairing devices. At the same time, there are often “not enough hands” to fix the part or wires in the desired position. This problem is solved simply – with a special device called “third hand”.
The classic version of such a device involves rigid attachment of flexible holders to the frame, which is not always convenient.
You, as he made a “third hand” with holders on magnetic soles that can be easily moved along the metal base.
Despite the machine tools used by the master, this project is quite simple to manufacture, and can be repeated with a minimum set of tools.
Materials required for DIY.
– Plastic 3X Fresnel magnifying lens
– Round neodymium magnet with a hole
– USB cable in metal corrugated braid
– Crocodile clips 50 mm, self-tapping screws
– eSUN PETG filament, two-component epoxy glue, spray paint.
Tools used by the author.
– Mini-angle grinder , brushless motor 12V battery
– Plate with magnetic holders for PCBs
– 3D printer
– Mini lathe, collet chuck
– HSS M3-M8 tap set
– Carbide turning plate SDACR0808H07
– Lathe tool DCMT070204

So, the material for the holders will be this hard USB cable in metal corrugated braid .
Both connectors are cut using a rechargeable mini-angle grinder . Burrs are also removed.

Of course, it is far from necessary to use a printer – it will be possible to replace the printed parts (they are quite simple) with bottle caps and felt-tip pen caps.
After print, details need to be cleared of supports.
Next, the author adjusts the hole to the wire diameter using a reamer .

He is not satisfied with the surface quality of 3D printed parts and does post-processing on his mini lathe . A bolt is threaded through the hole in the part and fixed with a nut. He clamps this structure in a lathe chuck, and removes a small layer, leveling the surface of the workpiece. Strictly speaking, the part can be clamped in a similar way in a screwdriver chuck, and walk with fine-grained sandpaper. If PETG filament or ABS was used for printing, then smoothing of the surface can be achieved by treating it with dichloroethane/dichloromethane.
The caps for the second end of the flexible holder are made and processed in the same way.

It is needed for greater strength of the adhesive bond.

Now the shanks of 50 mm crocodile clips are inserted into the caps, and glued from the inside with two-component epoxy glue.
Immediately after that, the end of the wire is inserted into the cap.

Before screwing in the screw, a little epoxy glue is applied to its thread.

The master already has a ready-made base – it is part of this set … Of course, you can use any magnetic metal surface instead.
If you often work with small parts, you can make another holder and attach a Fresnel magnifying lens to its end. It is flat, made of transparent plastic, gives a good view, and weighs almost nothing.
